Default Had a brush with an Audi RS4

My first encounter, not really ever had anyone trying to race me or edge me on (touch wood).

Live in MK so we have wide relatively traffic free roads (and dreaded roundabouts), was driving home from work around 8:30 pm so roads were pretty much empty heading towards my house.

A stunning graphite black Audi RS4 pulls up ahead of me in the second lane, I had to have a double take as I thought it looked like an M3 from the rear, flaired arches, mean stance, then I saw the badge and thought awesome motor.

I moved forward up to the line waiting for the lights to go (I was turning left), as they hit amber I slowly turned left and noticed he was on the outside lane level so I looked ahead, all clear, got the rev's up and put some power down. I shot away but he was like nothing else, just blistering speed, I gave up coming to the roundabout, I know when I am beaten.

Mad car's, different league to the Scooby.

Lovely lovely car. I have an audi TT and when i took it in for a services they had nothing else to give me for the day but an 06 black RS4.

Well well well! Forget the speed or the comfort (the way the seat holds you when you press the S button) or the size for what it can do..... The V8!!!!! I have never heard anything that sounds like it before!

But after driving it for i would say the 3 hours i got to (only had it to go to work and back) (and a quick blast on a A road ) It did not do it for me. 100 times faster then im TT and i have a uk 2000 i brought to do some track days with but it is too smooth!

Were with the TT and the subaru you get a kick at 2500-3000 rev's the RS is smooth all the way through and was just not to my tast.

Now a friend of mine has the older bi turbo advant and that is a force to be reckoned with! Also easy to tune.

But never mind what i have said, as you have too it is one hell of a car!!!

Quistion??? New M3 or RS4

Personally, I would probably edge towards the RS4 out of the two, I really don't like the new M3.

Working for an automotive company I am fortunate to get to see the new Merc's, Audi's and BMW's so I have had a good look at the newer shape BMW's (330's etc) and they don't have the look about em.

However the E46 M3's are relatively cheaper to buy now and one of my all time favourite BMW's, aggressive looks and a sweet straight 6 engine for around £15k which aint bad - shame I have kids otherwise I may well have skipped the scooby and bought another M3.

I know what you mean about the older S4's, bi-turbo engines were mental in them, great bit of kit if you can find one in good condition.

the new bmw m3 looks very very nice a german masterpiece but could you have one knowing that most other drivers on the road despise you because of the mentality of most of the bmw 3 series drivers. as "clarkson" said about the m6 you try to get out of a side turning and no one will let you out...... the rs4 for me pleeeeeeeease i think

I sold my STI last month for a 56 plated RS4. I have just discovered if you disable the active valves in the exhaust not only does it make the V8 sound all the time (instead of some of the time) but it also makes it much better in the low/mid ranges.

In terms of pace i would say there is very little between my old fairly well modded STI and the RS from 0-60, from there on the RS comes into its own. At first the RS felt slower due to the lack of noise in the cabin and turbo kick but after a few glipses at the speedo i realised it wasn't! Can be a bugger on the motorway though as if i was speeding in the STI at least i knew about it!. It's all to easy to creep over 100 in the RS without knowing. Two very different cars and i love them both - its just the RS has the class and performance as well as one of the best interiors i have seen IMHO

p.s.

Saw my first new M3 today at castle combe - better in the flesh than the pics suggest but i made the right choice

I do love the RS4, but the downside is that it is very expensive. Agreed on the interior it is simply stunning.

I would have both the RS4 and the Monaro over the M3 personally.

Aye, RS4 has got one of the best interior's I have seen, overall the car is a work of art but I would probably wait till they drop in price before I consider them.

Went go-karting today and was fortunate to get a good look at a 2003 M3 CSL and I have to say, I absolutely love them.

They remind me of the old school M3's, really hardcore driving machines, no fancy frills to distract you. The chap who owns it says he can't get enough of it but is cautious about taking it out in bad weather as its a bit hairy to say the least. I love the colour as well, dolphin grey was always my fav BMW colour and the CSL reminds me of that, interior is very slick on them too, there to tell you the car has a one function and that is to drive fast.

I had the plessure of having a lift in Pippyrips RS4 on saturday to castle combe and it can only be described as awesome.

Inside the cabin is breathtaking, Every toy you could ever want and The seats are just something else. The M3 is nice but just not a very nice place to sit.

The sound of the V8 is nearly as nice as the Flat four. It goes really well. It's just an overal awesome package

I had a play with a new RS4 over 25 miles of lanes about 6 months ago. I had no problem keeping up and could of overtaken in some places. He only got in front whilst speeding in a 30.
