Question

After the talk of the P1 sales push and me having a test drive I have decided to jump in and order one.

2 questions though:

1) I know Armourfend ( I think ) is fitted to the additional lip spoiler at the front to save on chips, but is it worth getting it done elsewhere, and what are the best places? I was thinking of having the whole of the front spoiler done.

2) How much is the Prodrive brake upgrade? I thought it was around 1500 but my dealer had a price of 2100 inc VAT up on his screen. I thought this was the best upgrade to get initially.

Thanks,

Dave.

Dave,

Armour-fend - just do it, I will when I get the money together, as it works out to be approx 500 quid to do it properly... it will be worth it if you decide to track days regularly!

As for the breaks, I thought they were about 1600-1700 plus fitting...

Try our friend Rum*.

He certainly gave me a good deal (£70 more than UK MY98), and he's already got 170+ P1's on his books.

I'm not sure how your age will effect things, providing you have a reasonable insurance record.

His email is tom@schofieldinsurance.co.uk

Hi Dave,

I would highly recommend Armourfend.
I had this fitted to my P1 before I took delivery of it.

I have now done 7k Miles and not a single stone chip to be seen.

I would recommend that you get Armourfend to fit it (They have a nation wide fitting service) before you collect your car.

Also another recommendation have the Hella Gas Discharge Driving lights fitted, there AWESOME.

I have just fitted a set to my P1 - what a difference over the standard driving lights.
When you turn those gases off the headlights seem like your operating with candle powered lights..

Cheers,

Rob

Rob - what parts of the car did you get fitted with Armourfend? At what cost? I was thinking of the gas discharge lights but I also like the Prodrive brakes. I upgraded the main and side bulbs on my MY00 with PIAA 'E' marked superwhites which make a real difference but I still know what you mean!

Dream Weaver - current insurance on my MY00 comes in at under £900, when some places were quoting between 1200 - 3500 ! Ridiculous. Hoping for great things from Rum* I'm an IT Consultant ( not a new thing on this board methinks )

Hi Dave,

I had the Bonnet, The whole of the front Inc the lower front lip spoiler, both front wing ends, lower part of the front wings, wheel arches, wing mirrors, side skirts & sill ends.

Basically all the vulnerable areas.

This little lot Inc fitting (By Armourfends mobile fitting service) cost me £700.00 for cash!

I remember it took 2 guys about 3.5Hrs to do that lot.

Cheers,

Rob

Question

Although I don't own a P1, I have been looking at ways to protect my new STi VI type R's bodywork from stonechips etc.

I had been thinking along the lines of just getting the whole car given 3 coats of Lacquer by a good bodyshop.

Did any of you look into this option instead of Armourfend and if so, why did you choose the latter?

Thanks Ian

Nice job to be in - I'm sure you can imagine what I do with my username, but I am fairly new to it (2 years), so will get my P1 eventually.

Insurance is my main problem - they are quoting me £1400 fcomp for a MY96 UK Turbo. That is 3 points for SP50, no claims, no crashes and 4 years NCB - Ouch!!

Dream Weaver you have mail regarding insurance.....

Rob, I guess you had the whole of the front spoiler done? And does doing under the wheelarches cause issues when the dealer does the spray on sealant at the second service?
