Hi ******, good choice of car! Had mine for over a month now and i can't imagine ever wanting anything else! Had a modified MY00 scoob turbo for two years, and the P1 is a huge improvement.
Few things:
It will probably have P-zero tyres, throw them away before its too late, they are absolute sh1te, especially in the wet!
Keep an eye on your speedo. They are deceptively fast, and alot of scoob owners crash in the first few months because they've approached junctions/bends quicker than they thought.
Give the car atleast 5 minutes to warm up before running on boost so that the oil can get up to temperature.
Hope you enjoy the car anyway........trust me, you will (its even good when stuck in traffic coz everyone stare at you!)
Drive carefully.

Hello to everybody,
I'm glad to say that I will be an owner of my first scooby on Friday when i pick up my P1 from the garage.
I've owned a few fast cars in my time including a BMW M3 Evo which i thought at the time was the Biz but after my test drive of the P1 on Monday I knew i had been living on the wrong planet...but not for long.
The purpose of this thread is to try and find out any hints and tips about owning a P1 (or any other scooby). What should I do, what should I not do, what to look for, what tweaks and mods do you recommend.
Anything at all that you lot think will be useful from you own experience
Roll on Friday........

Hi,
welcome to scoobynet.
Haven't got a P1 myself but from lurking on here I think most P1 owners past and present will advise you to get a good brake upgrade before doing any other mod to help cope with the extra power the P1 offers over a standard UK car.
Good luck with the car and enjoy!

Very nice, only own a UK turbo my self, maybe next year.
Yeah the front lip does tend to flake from stone chips. Getting it painted and armourfend seems to do the trick.
Being a turbo make sure you warm it up before going over 3K RPM, about 10-15 min and all so let it cool down before switching it off, I usually wait 3-5 minutes for this depending on how I've just driven and I always wait for the cooling fan to turn off as well.
Enjoy it.
Cheers.
Ian.

Armourfend? I've never heard of that. Sound like some sort of a laquer that you put on the the car though. Is this something that you can do yourself or does it require a specialist?

Sorry it obvious points.
Make sure it comes with the P1 light covers and rear and side prodrive badges. Also the prodrive mats including the one in the boot.
If decat ask for the original exhaust as well.
Watch out for that front lip spoiler over speed humps and steep slopes.
Lastly get yourself a thick skin to protect yourself from all the sniping at P1 owners on this BBS

Well my P1 is going in favour of an E46 M3 Coupe, as I was wasted by one the other day. Also a Calibra Turbo p i s s e d all over me on the motorway. Brake upgrade is definately needed as they are crud!

Ensure you run it on Super Unleaded (97RON or higher) all of the time, allow it to warm up before giving it some throttle, allow it to cool down before turning off and enjoy.
The standard Subaru 4 pot brakes are OK but I managed to get them overly hot once and went for the Prodrive Alcon upgrade soon after that.

Bloody hell !!
My old M3 Evo had the standard 321 bhp but still it wasn't in the same league as this thing (over a second slower). I've also had a good go of a calibra turbo but it was pretty poor. You must have put diesel in this morning.
Think i'll go cancel the P1....not !!!
Sounds a like a few good tips though. cheers

Apparently there is a red Calibra that lives around the Surrey/Hants area that is unbadged and red, and Iam told it has had some £25000 worth of tuning.
No Iam not sure why you would do that to such an aweful car but I hear its spanked a few 996's and M3's/M5's and even a few Cerbs so it isnt slow.
Can be found weekly on the M25 in Surrey somewhere.
Dont care how quick it is I wouls still give it a go, Ive beaten a couple of these in my M3 and they didnt even seem close, the one in question above must have been tuned to the eyeballs!!

Hi,
I picked up my first scoob a month ago - also a P1 :-)
They are impressive cars. I have had mine on track already and it was one of the fastest things there apart from people on slicks.
The brakes are crap on track and fade after a few laps if you drive it properly. I am looking to go to a bigger setup and am waiting for a letter from the subaru dealer to say that this wont harm my warranty on the rest of the car.
Mine is going back to subaru next week to see what they can do regarding the paintwork at front and rear. Subaru paintwork is ****e.
Make sure you run Superunleaded. I tried normal and got occasional hesitancy which wasn't nice. Super is much smoother.
Enjoy!
Marc

I've run mine on Optimax since it came out. Heard someone on here say that changing back to SUL gave more power.
Gave it a try, and after a tank and half it felt really rough (no noticable power difference). Switched back to Optimax, and it sounds a hell of a lot better.
I would always run on Optimax (if you can find it). Never ever on NUL. Oh yeah, definetly get the brakes upgraded and then start modding the exhaust.

Hi
You MUST get the brake upgrade - standard brakes are just inadequate for the Car. Decat downpipe makes a huge difference to performance and be sure to run on SUL
Hope you enjoy it - it is a fantastic car. Mine has gone in favour of STI7 and I am still in mourning, hopefully to be ended when my PPP is fitted, hopefully soon !

congrats on owning a great car. I'm in the process of selling mine at the moment, unfortunately time to move onto something else.
Everyone seems to have covered getting the front brakes done. The only other thing I'd recommend is changing to Toyo T1-S tyres, a BIG improvement in wet grip and progressive give on limit.
Oh, and take it easy at first! They don't (contrary to popular opinion) drive themselves automatically at any speed on any corner! Friend of mine had a boss who killed himself in one taking too much speed into a corner, left the road and smacked a tree. Treat them with respect I guess.
Enjoy.

Excellent - you'll love it
The comments about brakes are right - but you don't need to spend a fortune unless you're taking it on the track. I have pagit blues in place of the std pads and it's miles better - it was £150 or £1800 for the AP racing kit I was looking at. hmmm.
18" wheels are a must if it hasn't already got them, and with a decent set of tyres (i.e. NOT P Zeros)
Accept the front skirt is a pain in the **** - you'll get used to being paranoid about kerbs and it'll need respraying every now and then.
You'll get mixed views on Optimax - I found it noticeably worse than 97 RON super in mine but try both and see how it fares. std unleaded upsets it - you'll only do it once (living in Scotland, super unleaded isn't easy to get hold of!)
Enjoy!!!!!

Just to echo most of the comments already made:
Run it on SUL as a minimum. The manual states this quite clearly so don't mess around with NUL. I run mine on Optimax.
Brakes. Yes get them changed. I had Alcons fitted. Very impressed with them; I got them fitted by the dealer when I bought the car (about a month ago). You can haggle a good deal. I got mine much cheaper than AP4s.
If the paint flakes on the front or rear spoiler this is a warranty issue. Check with the dealer to find out if it has already been resprayed and if so get the dates. Mine had had the rear spoiler done. I've fitted Invincashield all over the front of my car; it's Armourfend by another name and about half the price.
Check the car comes with all the Prodrive branded mats and that the driving light covers and surrounds are with the car. Also check that both P1 supplements come with the owner's manual. There's a P1 manual supplement and then another that covers the security system on the car.
Many original P1 owners didn't bother activatuing the Tracker that's fitted; if they didn't then you are entitled 15 months cover for the price of 12 ()
The tyres, PZeros, are nasty. I had a modded MY00 turbo with Toyos before and my first time out in the wet with the P1 on PZeros was very disconcerting. It's now on Toyos and handles like it should
When you get the car take it somewhere with laser alignment gear and get the 4 wheel alignment done. Different geometry is also well worth it. I had the geometry, bumpsteer, anti-lift kit and rear roll bar links done on mine. Grrrrrreat
If the exhaust is standard, consider changing the backbox. I had a Prodrive upgrade box fitted (keep an eye on the "for sale" pages for the odd bargains that appear); it improves the sound of the car (not to a stupid level though ) and Prodrive reckon it's a good for a couple of extra bhp
Enjoy it I think it's bloomin' marvellous
