Hi, newbie with Subaru Impreza, have few questions
Hi, my name is Jamie and im 24 and from Essex (as my user name suggests ) I'm very into cars and forums, my last cars have included:
Ford Escort RS Turbo
Renault Clio 172
Seat Leon Cupra R
BMW M3 Convertible E36
Ford Sierra Cosworth RWD
All have been modified, cosmetically and mechanically.
I have just got my 1st Suabru Impreza and it's the WRX 1993 69,000 miles Import in bright red, has a few modifications. I just have a few questions about the car and impreza's in general any help and answers are much appreciated
1. My car is a 1993 WRX import and i have been told by someone that that is not the correct model name for my car? Please help what model is it.
2. Someone told me that the bumpers and rear spolier are not standard, i thought they where on the WRX import.
3. What is the colour name for my car
4. What BHP should my car be from stock
5. Whats the difference between a dump valve and a blow off valve (my previous turbo cars have only had dump valves.
6. Should all the lights at the fron be clears on a import ie indicators and side repeaters.
8. Are the seats Recaro's?
9. whats some good improvements to make/modifications
Also the clocks only go up to 110mph, so as it has been de-restricted do i know use the KPH as the MPH.
Thanks Jamie
Heres the spec:
Standard Cloth interior
Air con
Boost, Oil Temp, and volt guages
17" Team Dynamic Wheels with Toyo Proxes
Stainless steel exhaust straight from turbo back
Mushroom air filter
Baileys Twin piston dump valve
Red/Black rear lights
Clear lights all round
Tinted rear windows
De-Restricted

1. its a 1993 wrx import, pmsl so you were right lol
2. the front has an additional lip spoiler, the rear has had the plastic trip colour coded
3. red, lol, not sure exact colour name tbh, the code should be on the vin plate
4. 240bhp iirc for the early wrx's
5. not sure in truth
6. its just had clear lenses fitted, nothing to worry about as long as they flash orange (which judging by the bulbs they will.
7. where question 7??? lol
8. nope they are just the standard wrx seats
9. first mod needs to be the speedo sorted out and correct dials added and made sure reding correct
after that its all down to your budget.

Hello Jamie. I'm NOT sure that rear spoiler is standard, it looks like one off a version 5, or 6 STi, from the pics, I reckon it's a Version 6 as it turns up at the rear.
Dump valve and BOV are one and the same, but a BOV is often used to differentiate between one that vents the air to atmosphere, (aka VTA dumpvalve), and the one fitted to scoobs as standard, which is of the recirculating type.
Do a search on here, or talk to most reputable engine tuners, (DO ignore the many, many "experts" who will come on and tell you that they, or their mate has had this that and the other mod for YEARS and it's been OK), and they will tell you that scoobs don't appreciate either VTA dumpvalves, or induction kits. Given that if your car is an import it MAY be mapped for Japanese 100 RON fuel, you'd be well advised to either run it with additive, or get it checked for fuelling, BEFORE it goes bang!;(
Nice colour, btw. Change the bulbs in the indicators for Silvatec ones

Forgot to say: UK cars came with black plastic mirrors, not colour coded, dunno abt WRX's. Yours also has colour coded sills and the mudspats aren't standard, they were an optional extra, at least in the UK they were.

being a 93 import, you won't need a remap unless it has an aftermarket ecu. the early wrx's have a self learning ecu so will adjust for what ever fuel you put in it. it is advisable though to run it on super unleaded as a minimum and octane booster will help but get a good one such as nf race.
if it's been desrestricted, chances are it's now running in mph rather than mph. easy way to find out. get someone with a uk car to sit in front of you doing 30mph and see if your speedo sits at 30 or 48 lockwood do a dial kit that will show your speed in mph but the odometer still reads in kph.
not all jap imports have a rww. my type ra doesn't. do you have i/c water spray and a lack of abs unit? if this is the case you may have a type ra if no rww.
lastly very nice to see another red classic so get yourself over to the essex section and get yourself down to the posers cruise on saturday night so we can see it in the flesh

Rear spoiler not standard (came with low level one)
40mph (in 5th gear) is approx 2000revs (30@1500,50@2500 etc) just slap a 'mph' sticker over the top of the kmh.
236bhp (240ps)
Decat the car is good start, decent brake upgrade (2 pots suck imo),a few suspension mods (rear droplinks, rear arb)
Power wise change the ecu for a z4 or get a chip (PolarPerformance or Jolly Green Monster - ECU Mapping) for you standard ecu.
