Tony,
i thought you could pick up Jap spec STi's for around the 23k mark brand new. This one looks fairly standard (not sure about the HID), so 22k doesn't look like an 8k loss. Warenders aren't known for underpricing cars either ;-)
Cheers

I have been keeping my eye on the Jap auction prices, Japan is in recesion and car prices are dropping, now I not going to post what I have found here because some current owners will be well pissed off.
But I have sold my 95 WRX and got £7800 for it.
Well happy with that price, although it was a great car. They are very much cheaper in Japan.

I would agree with you, certainly on the new WRX. Or it should be.
Cant see why many people would bother with a grey import for the savings advertised. Looking first at the UK STI. The only other option Ive seen is for Litchfield Imports at £23,500. To that to get it to UK spec you need to add Sat Tracking system and the extra warranty. So real costs £24,250.
The UK STI costs £26k. Why not ask your dealer for 5% discount ?
That would take the cost to approx £24,750. Is the grey car worth a £750 saving ?
Now look at the std WRX. A grey import when taken to full UK spec inc Warrany etc comes in at around £18k. One of the UK's large Subaru dealers were doing brand new WRX's for under £20k inc Met. A three month old car can be bought for around £17.5k (maybe less).
Some will say they have saved more on a Grey, but seem to wait 5 months. I'd of owned two different cars in that time frame

Thanks for the replies peeps
what you have to look at is that 6 months ago you would have found it very hard to pick up a nearly new sti7 grey import for anything under 28k (30k brand new!) but with the introduction of the uk sti7 the prices have plummeted to keep the greys looking more of a bargain than the uk spec cars!
So in theory, in less than one year this car has lost 8k in value!!
Here comes a price war i think!!

Ouch, looks like I am going to have to hang on to my classic MY00 RA for another year and suffer with just 220 bhp/ton . At least the UK STi 7 does start to look sensibly priced though.

Just like to throw in that importing from Europe and getting a UK spec WRX for whatever discount is called parallel importing. Grey importing refers to bringing in a car directly from outside the EU, e.g. from Japan. Just thought I'd clarify that. It was easier to remember before the UK models became known as the WRX though...

Is the new STI the version 7 or 8? If the MY01 STI was the 7, shouldn't the MY02 STI be the version 8? Coz as far as I know the Euro STI is a MY02

Other grey importers have not moved the Sti 7 at the original prices of £28-29k. One sold one of their cars, the other is still in stock (that's nearly a year!).
What they have been doing, and I suspect Warrenders is no exceptions, is picking up ex dem/ nearly new cars in Japan for very good money at auction and bringing them in.
Check out Park Lanes website for example, a bunch of nearly new Sti 7s, they were not first registered in the UK.

WREXY,
Its an STi7, even thou the new ones are MY02's and this one is a MY01 its the same version, just a different year of manufacture.
STi's differ as they are made as a version and not a Model year like other cars (wrx's and turbos) so its still a 7 until they bring an 8 out

It's neither 7 or 8!
Just because the last version of the earlier car was STi Version 6 does not make the first STi version of the New Age Impreza a Version 7.

The biggest appeal of importing from Europe has always been prices. But the biggest appeal of importing from Japan is to get models not sold in the Uk. This is still true, because the UK STI will have alot less power than the Japanese version.
I personally would get the Jap version for £23,500, rather than £26,000 plus £1,600/2,000 for the PPP (Whenever that is available).

APS in OZ refer to the new MY02 STI as the version VIII. Have a look at the dyno graph on this link. And the Aussie STI is the same car that Europe is getting. Same specs.

So the logic is that you spend thousands more for a car designed for the Uk - then take bits off it to make it more like the Japanese version....
I run super unleaded with octane booster so have 99-100 ron anyway.

Its also well known that the quoted figure for previous STI was as high as 300PS (295bhp) on 100RON www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm .
I guess a decatted UK on super+octane booster wouldnt be a millions miles away though.
