Does it have K&N on it if not it could be a STi filter they look very similar. You can get a K&N cleaning kit with cleaner and oil. Follow the instructions then once oiled leave it on some absorbent towel to soak up any excess oil. The K&N can get clogged up but does not really alter the performance, if I remember correctly a few years ago their info said it actually improves the filtering capabilities. Log onto their website for more info.

don't worry, k&n and green are the same filter (or so i've been told) either way there won't be any difference between the two
you can buy cleaning kits (cleaner and spray on oil) just make sure you do it when you won't need the car for a few hours as the oil takes a while to dry.
very easy job and also i don't think new age mafs are as delicate as the circa 1999 mafs which were easy to contaminate. which is nice

£10-£15 cleaning kit every couple of years seems a good economy to me, the dealers will charge more than that for a paper one!
scooby, dlm. - cheers for the comment mine is a TSL one i think (i got it 2nd hand) and that's been fine. as long as the belled out flange isn't out of shape on your pipe it should seal fine. i think they are a std shape so shouldn't be different from make to make so might be a dud batch of machined pipes?
not too clued up on techy stuff i'm afraid, i just have a go then give it to someone to fix it if i **** it up! i have a feeling the spring bolts on that joint are too tight, but if it stops it blowing then **** it!

Well worth Cleaning.
I did the following (after buyin the K&N Cleaning Kit £9.99 from Auto Factors) : Gently tap it to loosen Stuff, Old Brush to agitate it, (make sure you do it both sides), use cleaner & let it DRY::
Spray A LITTLE AMMOUNT OF OIL!!!
I overdid it & the MAF sensor had to be cleaned out with careful Tisssues for a couple of weeks.
AS someone on SN said to me at the time, THE OIL HAS TO GO SOMEWHERE!
Anyway, now I've done it and, learned from my mistakes, I have enough cleaning stuff to last for a couple of hundred thousand miles.
Good Luck.
