Radar Detectors
#1
Does anyone have any good experience with radar detectors?
I have seen a few about (Snooper, Geodesy etc)
Are they any good?
Do they work?
Which one should I get?

bel euro 550 is arguably the best detector.
geodesy and origin blue i are not detectors. They cannot false alarm they only pick up cameras which are permanently or semi permanently fixed such as gatsos and spec and know their gps location so can tell you when you are close.
Bels can save you against ku band cameras in vans and against policemen with lasers. gps based units cannot.

I hardly believe it can intercept laser. That's because if you are aimed the police has instantly your speed(at the speed of light 300000 km/sec). And second it does not have lateral radiation, just straight line.

They do detect laser, it's just a bit late when you find out about it usually It's possible to pick up reflections as well. I've had a couple of beeps from mine picking up from the other side of the road, so presumably it could also work from the same side.

mine has saved me from laser. Admittedly you need to be lucky and catch a refelction which is very difficult due to the spread of a laser beam being pathetic, but some chance is better than none.
More important concern is portable gatsos which stick out of white vans and operate on Ku frequency. These seem to be flavour of the month in essex at least.

For complete coverage get a laser jammer too, the sensor sits around by your number plate, detects laser and blasts back a strong scrambled reflection which the gun cannot read.
Gives you about 5 seconds to slow down (the laser transmitter has to cool down following the 5sec burst). Reviews have shown that some of them work quite well - checkout the bel site they also distribute the jammer for around £200.

I would have thought that a radar jammer is the way to go. Detectors I assume are okay against static speed traps, but knowing you're being scanned by an 'instant on' detector is a bit late??
Thoughts?
(as I've just had my first speeding ticket for going 12mph above the open road speed limit on a straight, empty stretch on a sunday morning, I now have more than a passing interest in the subject)
regards

After wandering around the net, got to this website (refer package deals) that seems to endorse Richard Curtis' comments about the need for detection and jamming - and there does not appear to be a rated 'all in one' product
http://www.radardirect.co.nz/index2.html
(for GBP divide by 3; for USD divide by 2 - approx)
regards
(after reading 'chellewrx94's thread I am determined to get the URL display correct)

ive got a bell 550 euro always bieeping in the city. whats the best place to mount it ,is it on the wind sreen i usually put it on the dash.dont really trust it 100% because it always bleeps. i think its one for the carriageways and motorways.the best set up would be front and rear lasser jammers [laser echo target850],maybe a radar jammer[phantom technologies rcd-x and k band],but radar jammers are useleess really, and get a radar detector fitted permanently to the car like thebell 966.and then a origin blue i gps unit.sorted.

I run a Geodoesy and the new Snooper S5.
Both have saved my licence in the past week I've owned them.
My brother also runs a radar jammer on his cossie. Can't say whether that works, but I'd rather not find out!

i was referring to a laser jammer not a radar jammer.
I think radar detectors work fine at detecting radar traps but limited use detecting laser traps (most radar detectors also detect laser transmission), unless you get lucky reflections is usually too late.
I think a laser jammer together with a radar detector offer the best protection. The Bel550 is a recommended radar detector, a few good laser jammers can be found described here:

also with other useful info and reviews.
