Question Possible failed MAF?

Got problems with my cars idle again(MY99 UK), this time the bloomin thing stalled on me at a set of lights, she don't sound too happy .

The last time it happened a member of scoobynet gave me a hand cleaning the boost solenoid, checking the MAF by removing it and reset the ECU, car worked fine after, until now that is, thinking of going to the place in Chelmsford tomorrow and getting the MAF replaced, anything else I could check myself? there's been quit a lot banging coming from the exhaust over the past few weeks due to what I guess is over fuelling, which is another symptom of a failed MAF but could also be symptoms of lots of other things I have know idea about any help would be appreciated

Spirit if your reading this any chance of a hand mate?

Sorry a bit techie but haven't had any response on tech.

The other common cause of lumpy idle is the Lambda sensor. I've had both, but with the MAF I had a bad hesitation at 4000 rpm.

Def sounds like a bad maf, mine was trying to cut out to when coming to a halt, and idle was hunting. Also get a new O2 sensor for piece of mind.

As far as I know they're about £80 and easily accessible, but I'm not a mechanic.

Scoobynet was having a wibble for some reason, I ought to delete one, didn't I?

Better not, they all contribute to the post-count, don't they?

So the cheaper one is actually the more expensive one in the long run is the £170 just for the part or with labour?

Couldn't tell you.

I reckon the first one was a bit demic. The second one's been fine for over two years.

You need to ask a mechanic, not a carpenter/musician.

£170 for the part only. I was advised as the MAF had been failing for a while that it's possible it could of affected the O2 sensor as well, so that's why it was also changed.

Always hearing bad things about dealers, think I'll take my baby to Extreme Scoobies for its servicing etc.
