Unhappy How hard is it to buy an Impreza?

I've been looking for a clean 99-00 standardish UK turbo for a week now and haven't yet parted company with my cash.

Sellers not answering calls or returning them is one problem. But, I've been to look at 2 'immaculate' examples now and been disappointed. The one I looked at today had very bad paintwork and was a tip inside, the thing barely started. This is after I travelled for 90 mins to view and asking what the paintwork etc was like. Rust, scrapes, paint missing and dents, WTF do people blatantly lie about the condition, I was bloody fuming. Wouldn't have bought it if it was 4k let alone 5.5k.

And what's it all about some sellers well overpricing their car? I've seen a couple over 7k and been for sale for several months, what planet are these people on!

If there is a genuinely mint and low milage late classic I cant see why it cant go for 7k+

Because people want something for nothing. Late classic, low milage imprezas are getting very rare. This is starting to reflect in their value.
Luckily for me I have a lovely MY99 UK Turbo with only 53,000 miles and stage one mods.

take your time mate and dont rush into it. I looked for ages, looked at loads and suddenly found one only 3 miles from my house. I kept looking and looking and then it appeared in the autotrader, saw it on the net at 735 in the morning, was on the phone to the guy at 7:50 and at his house for 8:10. Completely standard and one owner from new, exactly the way i wanted it

keep looking mate and dont rush into it, youll find one

I just bought a 99 from a Subaru dealer...wasn't cheap but compared to the others i looked at its soooo much better. I had the same trouble looked at several described as mint, but when i got there i wouldn't have taken the chance at any price

Maybe some people cant afford that much for a classic at the time they went/are on sale.
I know at the time of paying just over £4k for mine If I had had the money I would have gone for one of the low mileage £7k ones.
Just because they are not selling at this particular time doesnt mean they are not worth it.

Mike how much did you pay?

At the end of the day if something is taking months on end to sell then you can almost say it's at the wrong price.

I've had four previous Imprezas, the longest to sell was the 22b (6 weeks) and they really are hard to shift, especially the uk ones. Every other car I've had apart from imprezas took days to sell, the Elise in 12 hours. So I have some sympathy with Imprezas taking a while to sell, but anything over 2 months to sell is overpriced, unless it's highly specialised.

People want something for nothing?

Just called this ad in the autotrader, not surprisingly he's sold already:

1999 SUBARU Impreza RB5 Turbo 4WD,
93000 miles, Blue. PAS, Airbags, ABS, RC locking, Alarm, Tracker, 10xCD changer, new engine+2yrs Subaru warranty, 11 month MOT/TAX, 1 owner since 1999, FSSH.. £4,995Telephone: 07837 705892

Price: £4,995

I'm sitting here kicking myself for not seeing it sooner

Oh, just been to see a W reg 1 lady owned standard turbo. Again, the paintwork was rubbish (scratches, rust and scuffs), only one MOT, no service paperwork and the dealer couldn't-wouldn't tell me why the 1 lady owner signed it over in January and it's now August.

Another wasted trip.

Iv'e just sold my uk classic without even advertising it my mate told his next door neighbour i might be selling and his neighbour wanted first refusal and he of course then bought it.

Was a Uk Classic Mica Green 33,000 miles 2001 x plate. Full history and loads of receipts for every bit of work.

He even waited 2 months untill i found a replacement Scooby
