mine is a proper Turbo XS intercooler, i would steer clear from the ebay ones as they show an intercooler like mine in 1 shot and some wierd looking one in another ??? look at the position of the dumpvalve in each shot??? the main picture looks like mine!! but all the others are some wierd looking thing !! but for the ££££ it could be cracking value ??

Yeah I bought one from Subaru.org - the original mounting brackets needed adjusting, but for the money I thought it was pretty good value.

Absolutely huge compared to a standard WRX - like twice the depth (only just clears the bonnet).

I didn't notice much of a difference, but never suffered with heatsoak...

I was just looking at a few ebay TMICs, thinking about it mainly because what people want for a second hand STi 8 job are - with the greatest respect to those on here trying to sell theirs - a rip off. When you consider that sellers are asking and expecting nigh on £200 for a second hand TMIC, and let's face it the only buyers are those wanting to fit them to a classic, it doesn't really make sense.

Say I buy an STi 8 TMIC for a couple of hundred quid. I've then got to get an STi 7 or 8 scoop to make it worth bothering with. I need an STi 8 undertray to do the job properly unless i want to make something out of pressed ally sheet that will end up a bodge. Then I've got to either cut down the clutch reservoir or replace it with a later model offset one - more money and/or time and who wants to **** about getting clutch fluid everywhere if they don't have to? Then it's getting the brackets made up as well. Then getting the TMIC modded to take whatever dump valve arrangement I need because my MY98 inlet manifold and idle control valve are in the way. Then sorting out the hosing underneath so it actually reaches the turbo.

All in all, a right royal pain in the ****. If an STi 8 TMIC could be picked up for £50 and THEN I had all the hassle and expense of fitting it into a classic, then OK that would be good value. No wonder there are so many STi 8 TMICs on ebay and elsewhere that aren't selling at £200.

For that money I'd rather have something brand new and bigger - after all, if I'm going through all the hard work of fitting an STi 8, I might as well do the job properly and put the biggest thing possible in there.

Which brings me to two TMICs on ebay at the moment. One from the US, made by 'ERZ' whoever they are - but for £150 delivered for a bloody great thing the size of a fridge, who's complaining? And the other is offered by Turbo XS, although obviously not THE Turbo XS, just an ebay shop with the same name. But for £250 which includes all the brackets, hoses and fittings, it's not to be sniffed at...

Anyone got any experience of these ebay specials?
