Question

When I was at Castle Combe on Monday - the ARDS intstructor wittily asked me how my 'Ford' was. Not satisfied with my lack of response he then said that Ford are the single biggest shareholder after FHI in Subaru.

Sound like bollox - or not?

Mind you, Prodrive look after both the Subaru Rally Team and the Ford BTCC team...

Rannoch,

Its General Motors that own about 20% of Subaru. Not Ford. So the Scooby is related to the Vectra not the Mondeo

Some annoying tw*t at work keeps asking how my vauxhall is.

He's just jealous.

Wink

At a recent wedding, I had an argument with the Brides brother because he reckoned that Subaru were a Korean company.

I tried explaining that they were Japanese, had been all along, and may well continue into the future.

Eventually I lost my rag and invited him to step outside......................and look under the bonnet at the 'Made in Japan' stickers and the Fuji HI bits and pieces.... Yet he still maintained it was Korean....

I left it at that...... And what did he drive????? Bleeding Nova all tarted up!

Talking

I knew about the GM shareholding - but this guy was not to be dissuaded and said that Ford had a bigger chunk.

Sad man!

If I remember rightly, GM are after Subaru's AWD system for SAAB. Turbo SAAB's suffer from what.....at the back, thank you, Torque Steer.

GM had their own 4wd system in the Cav GSi, Cav Turbo and a couple of Calibra's. They had a problem though, the transfer box had (has) a tendancy to go pop. (One reason why I have a Subaru. Otherwise it would be a Cav Turbo.) What better way to get a good system than to buy into a company that has probably the worlds best. (Que Evo owners to have a pop at me.)

Cool

Partly correct..

The other reason that GM bought in was to get their hands on Subaru's CVT (constantly variable transmission) technology. Subaru are acknowledged as world leaders in CVT design and most car companies have this as the 'next big thing'.
