Safe Parking at NEC ?
#1
Myself and a few friends are planning to visit the NEC Motor Show in a few weeks time.
I have found out that the NEC want to charge £7 per car for parking, which seems a bit extortionate, given that we'll only be there for a couple of hours at most.
Can anyone recommend a good, safe car park nearby, from where we could walk or get a taxi to the NEC for a reasonable amount of money ?

They might not like me for saying this, but Carstins of Balsall common, Subaru dealers. They let me park my car there a couple of years ago, its one or two stops(10mins) on the train from the NEC.£1.40 return .

IMHO there is no safe parking at the NEC.
I went to meeting once at the Metropole Hotel at the NEC, and 4 Impreza Turbos on the carpark got trashed, they even got one a few hundred yards down the carpark before the cat 1 stopped it. Most of the alarms had been ripped out physically from under the dash and they caused A LOT of damage.
Birmingham is having a bit of a problem with Sccoby theft at the mo......
so BEWARE!!!!! - Go to the Motor Show by train!!!

I do a resonable amnount of work at the NEC/Hilton attached to the NEC.
It is not the safest place to leave you pride and joy.
Motorshow week must be like christmas for the thieving sh*ts
Car thieves target it 'cause they know there will always be a good selection of nice motors there
People tend to leave their cars there unattended for long periods of time.
Security is busy directing traffic.
Quick story.
Nissan launched their 3000 twin turbo thingie
@ what was the Metropole. left a trailer with 12 cars on it overnight - seven went missing (from memory).
The NMC is just across the road - bit safer there or get the train.
I will often swap cars with someone @ work rather than leave mine there.

My Scooby will be left in its warm garage and I'll be going to the NEC in my Wife's Skoda Felicia 1.9 GLi Diesel. Thieving B******d's have a lot to answer for.

Lots of hype here!
I work in Brum (but not a Brummy - sorry guys!) and regularly visit the NEC and Metropole car parks, as well as parking at the airport and the BR International station - no problems so far but it wasn't Motor Show week.....
Why not try the BR International car park - its normally full of expensive motors and a short walk from the Show entrance.
Best bet is to fit a Barrier Deadlock (IMHO) before arriving!

PhilH: Not hype, I'm afraid. I live not too far down the road, and I know of more than one person that's had a motor go AWOL from the very car park you mention. If you are regularly parking an Impreza there, you can count yourself very lucky that it hasn't caught the attention of the local scumbags. Hang the lot of 'em, that's what I reckon!

Chance your luck and ask to use the Press / VIP secure park, you then don't need a bus to get to the main halls, as it's within walking distance, and is patrolled by security.
This is what I always do, and haven't been refused or had any problems.

I had my old 5-door Scoobie broken into while staying at the Metropole. When the tea leaves found it had none-standard triple immobilsation and a bloody loud alarm they just nicked two grands worth of contents. Two other Scoobies were nicked the same night, and this with 'security' on the exit of the carpark.
West Midlands police informed me that Scoobies are the number one target of the car nicking community in Brum, and the NEC area (Metropole, NEC carparks, Motorcycle Museum) are the hot spots.
I even had the valve caps nicked from my current Scoobie when in a 'secure' carpark in Brum.

This is all scare tactics is it not?? Your car is at risk wherever its parked surely? OK around Brummie it may be worse but come on lads the cars are for using not staying at home cos your all scared it may get nicked - I am going on Saturday hopefully and what the hell ... lock her up, leave her empty, take the stereo front, kiss her and hope she is still there (if not; we all have insurance havent we?) in my case as the car is less than a year old I will get a new one - but will that mean an ugly duckling?
So in the end do we all travel by train?
Or taxi?
Or bus?
Or Scooby?????? no contest!!!
Also if we take our Scooby service books do we get any goodies on Subaru stand??
