Default Newbie Intro & Help

Hello all......

Firstly I'd like to introduce myself & say hi. My name is Scot, I am based in Swindon & I have been looking for a 300zx for some time without much luck probably due to age & there being alot of dogs out there, so have started looking into alternatives. I have always loved the Scooby & so decided it was time to find out a bit more info.

I hate to be the newbie & ask questions that have been asked a million times before. I have had a good search & have found some great info. especially the guide at www.sidc.co.uk

A bit of info & advice from people on here would be great though.

I have a budget of betwenn 4-5k for the car.
I think I am looking for an import (more power) WRX or preferably WRX STi2. Firstly am I right in thinking these are 275bhp & 250bhp respectively? That is of course running on Jap fuel..... I read something on here saying use Optimax with an octane booster... but then read in that guide that octane boosters can contain lead & can be damaging!?

Other than the power diff Im not too sure what the model differences are?

I will be looking into tuning once I have found the right car but I would like to ask you guys what car you would go for for the money!?

Also what would be the first performance mods to go for? & what would that comprise of? I keep reading PPP ... Im assuming that Prodrive Performance Pack!? Is it possible to do this to an import vehicle also!?

Are there any major mechanical faults that seem common with these models? The guide said they are generally pretty reliable. I hope that is the case. I can't wait to learn more about these great cars.

Ok... well sorry for the novel & I look forward to your replies. Please help me make sure I don't end up with a crock!

first of all welcome mate if your going for more power then the jdm is the way to go but you gotta watch out for the buggered ones obviously lol, and yes ppp is prodrive performance package, and you could have one fitted to a classic, but for the price of a ppp you could easily achieve the same power with a re-map, de-cat down pipe and a few extra goodies and its true that jdm scoobs would require optimax, bp ultimate, super etc and octane booster as they run on RON100 fuel over there, but as an alternative you could have the re-map to work with our RON95, but your better with optimax to get the most out if it anyway

Thanks.... I know I need to look out for the buggered ones, but what is it that tends to go wrong specifically!? & is the STi that much better than the WRX? Or can I get a WRX & still expect decent gains!?

Also about the PPP.... Would I get Subaru to fit that? Or are there specialist garages that carry out the work? Approximately how much does it cost, whats involved & what are the increases in performance? Does it sort the ECU issue with Imports re: the fuel?
