Default The lack of optimax...............!

I realise there have been many threads on the lack optimax. But My car was mapped for optimax and for over a year and a half ago and since then I have religiously visited only optimax filling stations. On finding the lack of optimax i was forced to move the BP ultimate fuel ( I was also carring octane booster just in case). Due to the poor weather over the christmas period i did not drive the car that hard. But as a pleasent supprise i found that the knock link did not light up like a christmas tree.
Dis anybody esle try another petrol over the "dry" period and have a similar experinance.

Tried the normal UL Shell stuff. Found my car smoother and less lag at lower revs, but lights up the knocklink at high revs. I like the smoothness/less lag, but that also may be giving slightly less power (I can't quite tell). A tank of the BP Ultimate behaved like the Optimax - so no difference there.

Whether its the petrol or not, I'm going to try looking around now rather than be a loyal supporter of Optimax. Certainly in my case they've forced me to look around an compare other brands, which is surely not the way to retain customers.

Me too. Shell have let us down big time and deserve no loyalty. Soon as I can find a similar or better fuel thats it. Optimax was promoted to death not so long ago so to simply pull supplies to satisfy ordinary u/l customers is not good enough!!!!!

My MY 04 STI-PPP has been running on BP Ultimate for the last week or so. It's been very sluggish on starting (close to stalling, taking a couple of seconds to rev up) and feels like it lacks some go. No Knocklink, so I have no idea whether I am getting any det - but just in case I have not been using it much. Just put half a tank of Optimax in, so running a 50/50 mix at the moment (some spirited driving to do the mixing!).

Got about 50/50 Optimax/Ultimate in my tank at present, seems to be running fine (03STi ppp). Strange thing is my fuel consumption seems better with the Ultimate added.

Cheers, Diccy.

I've put in BP Ultimate for a couple of weeks now in my decatted UK300, and definately doesn't seem to have as much punch. In desperate need for some Optimax.

Crossroads Garage shell station (on the way to Wembury) is now texaco - they just sell their HIGH OCTANE/HIGH PERFORMANCE (Super Unleaded - to u and me)

South Brent run may be needed - but non there last time I passed it

All the Shell garages near me have been out of Optimax for 2 weeks or more.

I've been using Super unleaded from Esso, BP and Total. All seem good enough, but supplies of Super unleaded at other stations appears to be a bit hit and miss as well.

I have now manged to get some of the nice fuel (optimax).
I have at least with the help of the knocklink not done any harm to the engine via gentle driving.
Peter
Up north we don't have any of the 99ron tesco stuff yet.....!

I've been loyal to Shell Optimax for my 350z but no more after the last few weeks.

BP ultimate has kept me going fine in the interim and I think I'll stick with that.

Might be lured back if a free tank were on offer...............

Optimax should be back in the next day or two according to a reliable source, fyi I have MY99 UK classic and tried the BP stuff, the car hated it! So I let it run right down and put Shell 95 in and the car is back to its normal self...will be sticking with normal 95 or Optimax from now on.
