S-02s are the grippiest (but only just)...

Toyo's give slightly more limit feel (but only just)...

Depends what you want. But for god's sake don't mix!

Try Tyres Northampton 01604 588599

Cheers

Well... On MY Cavalier, I had a different tyre on each corner. A mate noticed that it had one with a lower profile on the front passenger corner than all the rest ! - perhaps that's why I never was so impressed with the Cavaliers legendary nay fabled handling

My tyre dealing friend tells me that TOYOs are marketed as a 'budget' tyre. I have been trying to get some, but he thinks he may be able to get hold of a set of SO2's or F1s at an 'unrepeatable price' - fingers crossed (- came joint top in some car mag survey mentioned earlier on the BBS)

Bought four Toyo's today, everybody around where I live wanted £120-130 per tyre, in the end got all four for £395. Valves and balancing inc. Not bad me thinks

I've tried both, and I don't think there's a lot in it (except price).

My experience of them is probably similar to Simon's. If anything though, I rather prefered the T1-S's as they seem to be a little more progressive, giving you a little more warning when they're losing grip, Whereas the S02's just let go. It's all personal preference at the end of the day.

I've tried F1's on several cars, and quite frankly they are the worst tyres I've ever used, bar none. Yet others swear by them (I just swore at them).

Go figure!?

Josh

Whatever you decide on Tyres Northampton are definately worth calling. Good bunch, good prices.

Had SO2's on my old Cav. Didn't notice them just give up. I found them to have a very progressive slide into understeer. (very controllable, just ease of the power and collected it.) And at the 'Ring they layed very nice black marks on the tarmac. Considering they temperature they got to - ambient 30c track hotter. They did not rip themselves apart.

Maybe this changes as you go up in rim sizes.

They cost me £300 for two, I was very impressed with them but I found they wear very quickly so I put them at the back to try and reduce wear> Later then I fitted at the front a set of marshalls...........OH MY GOD....It has to be the worst tyre I have ever seen, used etc . A friend has toyos and thinks there amazing hense thread. 4 toyos or S02 still uusure

I run T1-S's on mt Scoob and they strike a good balance between ride quality and life and value. Better than S02's in this respect.

I bought 4 SO2s (plus 17inch wheels) from the aforementioned Tyres Northampton on Saturday and I am VERY pleased with them. Superb grip, sharp turn in and I still have good ride quality. Not sure about the life expectancy as only had them on a couple of days. They also remove most of the tram lining that I used to get with OE tyres.

I recommend Tyres Northampton too, great enthusiastic bunch that know there Impreza's from their Cav SRi's!. Also met Stef there which was good, great bloke (THE most enthusiastic Impreza owner I have ever met!!!) and he kindly let me have a nosey at his car - cheers Stef

I used T1-S on the Mondeo for 11,000 miles - loads of grip, but wear very fast. They also gave big tramlining problems as they wore, and virtually no wet grip (a couple of scary slides, completely sideways) when they still had over 2.5mm of tread.

I swapped back to front at 8000 miles, then changed them all for Goodyear F1 a few weeks back. The Goodyears seem like a much harder compound when cold, but heat up quickly, thereby increasing grip. I'm really quite impressed with them so far (3000m), especially the fact that they seem almost unmarked, and obviously are wearing much more slowly than the T1-S, with only a marginal (if any) reduction in grip.

I appreciate that I give my tyres a hard time, but I drive in a consistently, ahem, 'spirited' manner, and have never managed to totally wear out tyres so fast as I did with the Toyos. They were grippy enough, but only maintained peak performance for 6-7000 miles, which really isn't enough for me.

They may make sense for a car like the Impreza (lighter, all wheels driven) but for a heavier car, they seem just too soft.

Recently fitted a set of S0-2s and am very impressed. Not tried T1-S.

As for prices, got mine from Micheldever.
£425.
They also quoted £400 for P-zero, £370 for F1.
They don't do Toyos, but I found that £370 is about the goig rate.
All prices are all in for a set of 4.

Jon

I can't make up my mind about the Toyo's. I have T1-S on the front only (for about 6 months). Their dry grip is excellent and most of the time wet grip is good. But, every now and then, particularly on damp roads they are scarily poor. Suddenly the front wheels can lose all grip in surprisingly slow corners and I can't always predict when it will happen. I don't its got anything to do with the back tyres being a different type. I think I might try a different tyre next time.

NeilR:

Phoned my local Halfords to enquire about the Bridgestone offer. It's still on, so they quoted me for 4 S-02 PPs in 215/40x17 ...

£659.20 fitted!!!!!!!!!

Ouch ... and thats with 25% off. Have they made some kind of mistake as that works our about £220 each!

Danny Fisher:

Can I ask where you bought your Toyos, and what size they were? Sounds like a better deal to me!

Cheers.

Andrew
