That is, without doubt, the single most rediculous feature I have ever seen on a car. I noticed the clock became fractionaly brighter but didn't think for one minute that that was the primary function of the switch. Oh well, thanks for the informative, if somewhat dissapointing, reply.

It is a 2002 model. Under the AC control there is a round circle marked bright but im buggered if I can find any button **** or switchy anywhere. Checked manual in my best Norwegian and not even mentioned.
The thing is you cant read the panel in bright sunlight and it shows both outside and inside temp and whether the ac is on or not etc.
I really need a bright button!!!!
Mine is identical to this one:

I cannot see the lights on the dials which indicate that the air con, heated rear screen and air recirculate are switched on. I have the 'bright' on the stalk on my WRX MY05, should this increase the brightness of the lights on the control dials??

Beastie,
Sorry for the slow reply - and esp coz this is a question...
Does your car have climate control, if so, try holding the OFF button down with your lights on... (may work on manual controls too, but I am only familiar with the auto system).
Cheers
