old wives tale.
But rest assured a few people will try it and it will be all the more revenue for the Govt.

http://www.radar-camera.co.uk/ found this stuff price is a bit steep but if it works guess its a small price to pay, not that i agree with denying this poor goverment revenue from speed cameras

I had a set of reflective plates once and they did work... to a point. Basically these plates reflect most of the cameras flash output rendering the plate burnt out (photographic term). However the person processing the film can apply certain techniques (ie reverse the image/negative) that allow them to read the number quite easily. Whether they choose to take the time to do this is another matter. Also these type of plate only work with the flashing, rear facing type of camera, NOT digital.

Saying that I had them on my cars for over 10 years and never got done. Then again I've been lucky enough to never (yet) be done by a camera...!

My Dads got some reflectives on his 911.

If you take a flash picture of the car, the plates come out totally white.

If the film is then saturated, then no amount of tinkering will pull back the plate number, but some film is easier saturated than others.

Using my digital camera (first was done with my Minolta 35mm film camera), the images is so saturated that I can't get the plate image back. Only works on camers with flashes of course.

This is going to sound so weak, but

Cant find the pics ATM, the car is 240 miles away. Will do them when I go home next month and try to remember to post them.

It was about 5 years ago when I took the pictures. Still got the same car though, 1990 Carrera, 12,000 miles on the clock and absolutly mint.

But if they do take the time which I suspect they will, you will not only get done for speading you will also get done for obstructing the police or perverting the course of justice and anything else they fancy throwing at you.

As mentioned above, will not help with the new Truvelo cams that are now the most common new installation, no flash! James bond style rotating plates required methinks.

Always amazes me that the most advanced cameras on the roads (truvelos and specs) aren't set up to catch the most common and most dangerous speeders (motorcyclists).

What a rip...

What a wa**ker!!! OK a lot of bikers are common but not dangerous. They have to be VERY aware as they don't have airbags, rollcages, crumple zones or side impact bars. Dangerous is those that drive fast but don't pay attention or factor in a percentage for safety, but mainly those who just are not on the ball.

being aware and having a GPS camera is as good as you can get....learn to reconise typical 'speed camera' zones...long straight roads with no obvious hazards. 90% of speed cameras you can spot a mile off and are normally warned about before hand.

note the being aware

If you smear it on about 2" thick, vaseline works - no-one can see the plate underneath.
