MIXING FUEL
apart from the obvious dilution does it matter if you top up your fuel tank with super unleaded when there is half a tank of optimax in it already
i.e.
does it effect the running of the engine in anyway other than less power??

stuck about 10 quid of normal unleaded till i could find some super or optimax, then whan i found some optimax i stuck in £30, on the way up on the a1 i was having a quick blast against a bugeyeye but the knock link was going mad everytime on WOT, so i had to back off, my cars a uk spec with light mods only but the knocklink lit up red which has never happend only when i mixed the fuel, so may i suggest dont mix unleaded and optimax/super until the unleaded has been used up

Well my Octy vRS runs just fine on 95RON, can't say I have ever noticed a difference with these special petrols other than the hurt to my bank balance. Tesco unleaded for me.

I have a MY96wrx with a dyno'd figure of 307bhp have had it for just over 3 1/2 yrs and at least once a week i put normal unleaded in it,because i cant be arsed to drive to my nearest shell.
Well here goes- about to tempt fate big time! It hasnt missed a beat yet.
It seems to me all bloody scoobs are diferent.
I mean some people on here have run classic sti's on super for years with no probs were'as others have blown theres up because they put normal super in.
Why the hell is this.
I love my scoob to bits but always have that nervy niggle in my head everytime i open it up.
Hands up any1 that drives there scooby without looking at the various gauges and listening to the note of the engine every other minute just to check everythings ok.
It really gets on ur **** after a couple of years.
Still bloody love it though.

I run mine on only normal unleaded as there are no Shell garages near me.
Its today had its 30k service, been plugged into the computer, fully checked over and no faults were found at all. Go figure?

The computer won't log premature bearing wear - the first you'll know is a loud knocking from the bottom of the engine.
Many UK cars (Turbo 2000 / WRX) should be able to run on normal unleaded without damage, but most owners seem to prefer SUL anyway, both as a precaution and because it gives better performance. Not sure about the STI.

I read an interesting article about optimax and SUL
Optimax is a lower grade fuel with additives to make it 98 ron.
SUL is pure 97 Ron
An optimax used engine was stripped down after x amount of miles and this additive coated everything
Don't know whether this is true or not. I use SUL and optimax, just what ever is available at the time.

Does anyone think this has an impact on piston slap? I've run my UK spec turbo on normal unleaded for 7 years from new. Performance is good, but piston slap from cold is a bit annoying.
Funny how you get the car new and it's, 'Bloody hell, this is quick!' to 7 years later being, 'come on you bitch, come on!'
