At what point does it change....?
...just a quick question I've often asked myself....
We're all (well, I think most of us, anyway) in search of more power and driveability in our cars. We modify the engine and associated parts in order to fulfil this need.
So.... in the search for more power...... at what point does a normal car with daily reliability teeter over the edge and become a high-power monster that spends more time with the engine in bits than on the road?
I've seen some amazing high-power Scoobs around. BUT the most seem to be always in the garage with something or another "not right" with them.
Where's the threshold? Reason I'm asking, is that I intend to stay *just* this side of it

Think theres a lot of factors to consider such as engine condition prior to tuning/how you treat it/how long you expect it to last...
I want 320 bhp but only want another 20k miles out of the car (its only done 5k) as then I can finance a big hp rebuild

My needs are simple. I will settle for a power output whereby if I give it full throttle it scares the $hit outta me. So most of the time I just use say 1/2 throttle.
At that point I think I would stop modding the car

more power!!!
It all depends on where you start. If you have a 1.6GL, then I think that expecting to get 300bhp is being optimistic, but if you have a UK wrx then about 280bhp seems the norm. I have an STI4 and that's 290 out of the box. I'll go to maybe 320 and then stop as it's a lot of money from there - if I had the extra £30,000 to get 500bhp I'd have bought a Porsche!

330ish and look after it, i ragged the nuts off mine in that 40000 miles, including lots of drag runs. Never cooled down or warm ups, well sometimes i did do them. It got driven and that was it. Only came off the road to do extra stuff.
Gearbox went after 20000 ish 350bhp modified miles plus 15000 mildly modified miles.
Torqgue kills the box, so i would say 330lbft torque with good oil, and 4.5 litres.

The TSL 333 gets you close mate. Mine has 329bhp with the same sort of torque too.
