Default Cam belt change for my MY00

I have just purchased a MY00 and the Subaru dealer I purchased it from told me that it had just had a full service and showed me book with the history in it. As I was so excided at the time I only glanced through the service book. Last night I thought I would check to see when the cam belt would need changing. The book it says 45K or 36 months and the service that they had just done was the 37.5K or 30 month. The car has done 33K and is on a W plate. I am going to phone the dealer today to find out if it has been replaced or not. If it hasn’t do I need to get it done right now or would it be safe to leave it until the next service?

Depending on the Chassis code this should have been done at 3yrs/45k or 4yrs/60k

Either way it should have been by now if it's on a 'W' .

Changed the cam belt on my X plate scoob at the 45k / 3 yr service so yes it should have been done by now. Either way based on the service every six months schedule yours is a few short.

I have spoken to the dealer on the phone and he said he would go and check. He phoned me back and said the following:-

The service intervals in the book were for a P1 and I won’t need to get the cam belt changed until the 60K or 5-year service (which ever comes first).

Can anyone confirm this for me as I don’t want the engine to blow up before the next service.

1 thing I noticed in the subaru service book, the schedule states cam belt at 4 yrs or 60k (also in the impreza handbook) but the pages with the stamps go on say 45k (inc cambelt), only the justy schedule states the 45k cam belt change?

The dealer stated that there was changes made to the 00 engine to allow
a longer service period on cam belt.

Thank f*$k for that. I have just forked out 11K for the car, £165 for car tax and £803 for insurance.

To try and clarify a little. I believe earlier some of the early MY00 cars and all previous should have cambelt changes at 30k, 60k, and 90k. The last of the MY00 cars and newer should have theirs changed at 45k, 90k intervals. Or time equivalent.

Cant remember time equivalents as mine was changed (51 plate MY00) at 45000 miles under 2yrs old.

I believe it depends on the chasis number, so i would ring a couple of scoob garages just to check.

60000 miles is a long time for a cambelt change IMO

My thoughts exactly, better safe than sorry and all that. Few £100 for a cambelt change or few £1000 for an engine rebuild......

I have spoken to another dealer and the 2000 model (with colour coded wing mirrors, 6 spoke alloys and map reading lights) does not require the cam belt changing until 60K or 5 years of age.

Thanks all for your input. I am now a happy Scooby driver

Sounds like they are fobbing you off with the P1 story.

As far as I know cambelt change on MY00 is 60k miles OR 4 Years.

I had the one on my 'W' Reg. replaced at 33k miles 4 Years.

Cheers,

Ian.
