Without a doubt the road angel is the best. About £400 with first years subs included. Most other detectors don't find mobile laser camera units. Not sure of best place to buy though. I got mine with the car from new.

Visit http://autoexpress.co.uk and goto misc-product tests and there are reviews in the last couple of weeks on radar detectors and GPS detectors. I have a Bel 550 and it is very good...

I had a Road Angel for about a year and found it to be extremely good. FOR Excellent database/Good warnings/Easy to configure/Lifetime Subscription for only £99 is a bargain. AGAINST Only displays your current speed/No motorway mode.
I have recently switched to an Origin B2 which I think is even better. FOR Excellent database/Excellent speed sensitive warnings/More info on the display. AGAINST £50 a year subscription is definately NOT a bargain
Try looking on http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk for lots of good information on detectors etc.

I've got a Road Angel and a Bel 550 - they complement each other very nicely.
For example, I felt that the RA told me whenever and wherever there was a Gatso camera, but the Bel could tell me if it really was there and if it was really working. Conversely, the Bel hasn't got the foggies idea about accident blackspots and SPECs cameras - which the RA is great for.
You need both.

Road Angel for me also, works great. difficult to find discounted rates on them though, as Blackspot who manufacutre or supply them (which ever) tend to strictly regulate the price.

I bought a Snooper R6 neo half price from Halfords for £250
superb and picks up all cameras and mobile units
also displays motorways or a roads individually or together and will auto switch back to both if you come off the motorway
Has saved me points on my license by picking up those poxy truvelo cameras on the way to bridlington
Would by another one even at full price

Snooper R6 Neo R+D. Seems pretty good. Still feeling my way with it but I have not seen anything I consider to be better yet.
The Bell 550 is also very good for less money but fulfills a different type of function with no satelite connection but it is so good you can speed past cameras if it is not alerting you. ie they are switched off.

Hi,
I have Valentine1 detector and have no quibbles with it,picks up mobile laser units the lot,as did last week over M5 with the police sat on top of the bridge 10secs later after it alerting me,also the thing i like is that it tells you if you have laser from bewhind in case you get followed and tagged and dont notice they are there, but its all personal preference. At the end of the day everyone likes to save money and get cheaper and cheaper buys, but you only get one licence and it pays to keeps it clean.
Regards
Gene

I like my Road Angel, used to have a Geodessy but they are pretty basic.
Good thing is my LRC 100 couples straight up to the back of the unit.
The RA is very portable too if you have more than one car.

Of the GPS units - I chose Road Angel - impressed with it so far. I did have a problem with the original unit, but Black Spot swapped it out very quickly with no fuss, so you can't say fairer than that.
Of the non-GPS units, my favourite was the Bel Euro 550 - Easily the best IMHO. I have one for sale if anyone is interested. These units still cost close to £300 new. £175 will get you mine (all original bits and boxes supplied).

If you want a radar / laser detector I can 2nd the Bel euro 550 as a stand alone unit. I have a vector 990 internation which was the predesscor to the euro 550. I had mine reflashed with the euro 550 settings so it can be configured for the uk radar bands KU K X ect on multiple frequencies, exactly how the euro 550 works.
It is for sale on ebay today at £85. my user name is pbeecroft on there.
comes complete with all cables and a flashy metal carry case.
If you want a gps camera detector the road angel is my recomendation.
pays your money takes your choice the roadl angel can be got for £320 without group buys but you also need to add £100 for lifetime subscription after the first year. not cheap but it is very good.

Bought a Road Angel, and then a PDA Sat Nav with TomTom. Been able to get CheckPoint for free on the PDA along with a very good free database. Not had anything yet that the Road Angel has picked up and the PDA missed. Also the PDA shows you average speed through a SPECS which is damn handy. With hind sight I'd have just gone with the PDA as you get a load of other goodies including the sat nav for the same money. Only down side of the PDA is no laser detection but IMO you would have been caught by the time you react to the beep anyway.

Another vote for Origin B2 - had it since Christmas and IMO the smallest unit, neatest install and the widest range of features. Radar add on due soon although the date keeps moving back.
Covers all fixed cameras and laser as standard.

I use the Road angel and a second generation Valentine 1. As someone else said you really need both. RA is nearly 2 yrs old and the LCD screen is starting to go at one side, every so slightly. Must call them and see what they offer.

Hi Criss
Thanks for the PM, The Road Angel is a good bit of basic kit but if your sitting in traffic 50 yards before a gatso the Road Angel will be going of like mad despite the fact you are stationery. Indeed the Road Angel will alert you regardless of your speed
You could drive within the speed limits all day with the Road Pilot and it will not make a peep. the screen will show a warning and the speed applicable.
If you are however doing 35 in a 30 the Road Pilot will warn you to slow down untill you are within the limit.
The Road Pilot allows Mileage checking, Plotter to where you have been and also your GPS coordinates
Finally like mine you can add a radar detector to it and adjust the sensitivity for each of 3 bands and speed limits that it does not alert you
Hope that helps

Phil, Sorry for the questions, but.......
Do you use a jammer as well, or just the detector?
Also, is the Road Pilot a quick release unit or does it have leads plugged into it like the Origin Blue i?
Finally, what about false signals ie. cameras on the opposite side of the road or underneath you when you're on a flyover etc.
I currently have the Morpheus Geodysey and its great apart from the mobile speed cameras, and signaling every camera whether on your side of the road or not, but think its now a bit outdated.
Thanks for any info

Klingon Clooking device now Installed
You can see all the pic's of the install here
The front screen snaps of and fits on a usb craddle for updates
The unit does sometimes register a camera on the oposite side of the road, but usually by the next download it has been corrected
I have a LRC100 for opening my garage door
