This is taken from the SIDC website - it's close, but not the 2.0GL you refer to I'm afraid....
1.8GL"
A very special special! In 1993 Subaru UK brought in 6 Impreza WRX RSs, the development car which led to the RA. Due to type approval regulations, the cars were registered as 1.8GLs! 3 went to Prodrive and were presumably smashed to bits in a forest, while 3 went to Subaru UK who later sold them as used cars. At least one is known still to exist. Yes, it says 1.8GL on the registration document. Yes, it has a 2 litre engine with a huge turbo under the bonnet ...

*MOST* imports had 1.8GL etc on log book at UK registration - it's quite normal - don't worry about it.
I guess the DVLA just picked the closest model!

Mines an import MY98... Sti
on the log book it says
Model Type- 2-axle-rigid-body saloon
Variant- (says nothing)
version (says nothing)
When i got it insured they couldn't find the model so i had to tell the insurance company as i didn't want any problems later when it came to a claim... they will insure it for what it says on the log book but if they inspect the car after some misshap then the insurance company can turn around n say you provided us with false information...

It was normal for WRX and similar to be issued with a "GL" log books by DVLC. This is the case on my 95 WRX Wagon and I have seen an STi ver 4 logged as "GL".
My STi ver 6 Wagon is logged "Subaru. Model/type 2-axle rigid body estate.
I think it has to do with the fact that the DVLA computer data base does not have a comprehensive model list for cars that were "Grey" imports.
Regards insurance Dave, it would be foolhardy to insure as a "GL"
You could get away with it and save money but there again if the wheel came off you could be in deep ****.
That said, the insurers of my WRX had difficulty identifying the model which was correctly described as a WRX, turbo and an import. After some time they came back and accepted it as an import and I am happy but there is still a nagging suspicion I may be paying a premium for a non turbo, despite the fact I was as clear and specific as I could be.
The STi ver 6 Wagon is with Subaru Insured
enquiries@subaruquotes.co.uk and when I came to declare the mods they said it was insured on the basis of the power output. They are very helpful, based in Leeds and must be worthy of consideration for high powered Scoobs. Run by Scoob enthusiasts.
