Yet again the amazing British press seem to have it in for our dearly beloved cars. For some reason the Impreza has come near the bottom in a survey of cars you are likely to walk away from if you have an accident, but the quote "...bigger cars like the super fast Subaru Impreza also feature low down in the safety league. That's because these are cars which could be involved in high-speed accidents rather than minor shunts, because of the type of people who drive them".

Yeah, great publicity. Looks like we are all tarred with the same brush.
Anyone else hear the insurance companies rubbing their hands?

Well it is supposed to be a sportscar so I think it's a valid point. The STI is already group20 to reflect that.
In USA tests the MY02 was one of the safest in the standard tests..but as noted in this report scoobs are generally driven quickly so high speed accidents *will* be more common.

yes we are all tarred by the same brush, and the reason is it is usually true!!!

i will admit i got my scooby to drive fast, corner fast and throw around the back roads. If i wasnt going to do this i would get my BMW back with the leather, aircon, electric everything, TV/Video/DVD e.t.c...

After seeing some things that people have managed to walk away from, I'd say the scoob is bloody good in an accident...

Agree with Chiark. I have seen posts of peeps cars smashed up big time, usually barrel rolled and they have got out ok.
I always though the Impreza was regarded as a good strong car in an accident, these types of surveys are all relative and can be misleading on first impressions.
Cheers.
Ian.

Sorry - I can't agree with the suggestion that Scoobies are bad in a crash. A good friend of mine crashed in her Scoob. If she were in a lesser car, she wouldn't be alive today. It was a big accident and she stepped out 99% unharmed. It's one of the reasons I have a Scoobie now.

The survey only mentions the MY93-00 models, not the new ones so far as I can see.

MY01 onward has a 250% stronger shell - so even safer.

Kind of answers a lot of questions IMO.

Drive normal, use power to overtake, etc...

I am also unlucky to say that I crashed in my Scoob a few years ago, but luckily I walked away from a write-off.

I think all cars should have roll cages. Take a look at the the 4th line of piccies on the following link, which was a test day I was doing at Sweet Lamb on Sunday. These guys came over a 60 degree brow flat in 4th @ 6K revs, somehow lost it and barrel rolled 200 ft down the track. They were at work on Monday!!!!

Well I for one will back up the saftey of the impreza.

My first scoob, an original build STi, was written off by myself in a head on collision. The speeds weren't too bad but the bonnet and engine were crumpled to about half their previous size.

The drivers and passengers foot well and the entire interior area were completey untouched. I walked away with no more that whiplash. The other driver was not as lucky as me, although not seriously injured, thank god.
