A BMW driver ran a red light, near BP last night, unfortunately it was me who had just set off from his left and hit him, spinning him into the traffic light. My car, MY00, has a very broken looking front end.
Now this guy admitted liability and the cops took a statement and I have a witness to the crash, who confirmed he went through on red.
My question is, as long as he doesn't change his story, which I don't think he will as he seemed a decent guy, should I get him prosecuted, or has he learnt his lesson? He did seem genuinely apologetic and shocked, following the accident.
I am more angry about this today than when it happened, does everyone on here realise how useless insurance companies are and the cars they try to fob you off with, as loan cars Grrrrrrrrrrrrr Any idea's as to how I get obtain a decent car would be appreciated.

His problem is that if he tells his insurance company that he admitted liability they will probably not pay out. I would expect his attitude to change a little when this is brought to his attention. Take care and the best advice you can get.

If the cops have him on record as admitting guilt, he can't really change his story. If he does, then ask if...
1/ He's suggesting the Police are lying.
2/ His insurance firm knows he lied when logging his report.
Get a copy of the officer's report and the name of the officer who attended.

Hi mate, sorry to here of the accident. When you asked if you should go ahead and prosecute him, if he has admitted to the police he run a red light, they will more than likely charge him for it anyway and because it caused an accident, he will probably be done for driving without due care and attention (cd10) anyway.

Sorry to hear about the accident.
Assuming you have an independant witness (in another car) who can confirm you didn;t jump the lights and that he did, then he can change his story as much as he likes it shouldn't make a difference.
Police will most probably prosecute him for a CD10 Driving without due care and attention as they do so fairly readily (as I found out doh!) thye should write to you after he has been prosecuted or write to you saying they are not.
Has happened to me, once on the receiving end and once the innocent party like you.
As to you trying to get him prosecuted, I don;t thnik you need to worry about it as the Police will if they think they have a case which sounds that way and it will not help your insurance claim either way strangely.. which shocked me when I was in your situation.
I suspect his story might change slightly when he has realised what he is facing, at the time it is a bit harder to deny things when it is all dented in front of you.. but as you have witness + Police attendance you should be fine.. Worth getting Police Statement to send to Insurance too as a help in your case though.
Good luck
