hmm, 95 eh? well it's got new shape (as in post 96) bonnet and bumper, has it got slanted intercooler? if so then it's been facelifted, if not then it should not be a 95, possibly later.

yeah 95 quid, my pound sign is buggered as i formatted the laptop not long ago, so any ideas getting the english characters back?

You may be able to fix it with keyboard properities in the control panel and the language tab. Make sure it set to English (British).
