I'm probably being thick but did you know....

...about the little metal bracket on the back of the petrol filler flap that you screw your petrol cap onto while filling up?
I only realised the other day and wondered if all Subarus had them and if I was being really thick by not noticing it in the first place!
I would hereby like to put myself forward for the "most useless piece of information" award.
Neil.

(my99) mine has it... but i agree it is most useless and gets in the way when filling up - as i find i have to tilt the gun to that side to get it to fill up without clicking all the time...

Yep I noticed it too. Great idea. People do look at me funnily when I turn the pump sideways to get the fuel in. What a nightmare if you have to pull up to a pump on the wrong side of the car.

I have problems getting petrol into my Scoob sometimes too. First time I did it the pump nozzle clicked off so many times that the pump shut itself down twice.
The only other car I've had problems getting petrol into was a Ford Ka. That did a smilar thing and needed the fuel nozzle at an angle to prevent it continually clicking off.

Andrew,
Why not drape the "string" and cap over the bracket on the rear side of the flap - that's what I do and the cap then goes nowhere near the paintwork....
Matt
preferred it over the plastic 'string' that ties the cap to the flap on my MY02 STi UK, leaves the cap dangling against the paintwork

LOL @ Mikey!
Worst I had was a hired Punto - I pivoted the nozzle slowly through 360 degrees almost, still wouldn't fill at more than 1 teaspoon per second. Asked the guy at the garage if his nozzle wasn't blocked.
