OMG 31mpg!

I am in shock... I thought the petrol consumption was better but OMG worked out the figures and 31mpg.
I am skint and things don't look like improving for a bit but I am refusing to sell the Scooby... so instead I have been driving with a very light right foot.. and the result it a reasonable MPG!
Damn boring though..

LOL@Dixie.
No just off boost the whole tankful.. well tankful and £10..
it is an early car with the TD05 so there is nothing below 3000rpm so I just changed up at 3000rpm or eailer and cruised at 70mph..
Not been a good this week.. that Turbo rush is just too much to stay off for long!

It's shocking, innit? I got this a couple of weeks back driving to Milton Keynes and back. One tank of fuel, 320 miles, still quite a bit left in the tank...
I felt like complaining

I did 432miles on a tankfull and £10...
I cannot remember the number of litres now but it was honestly 31mpg.......
I have not got better than 28mpg before.
This was all motorway mind....

Hi JGM,
I must say well done, I've never managed better than 26/27 mpg & a lot of that was motorway! Anyone know what model turbo I have
(UK MY97)?
Also a lot of people have reported getting 300 or more miles out of a tankful, I never get much more than 200.
(The joys of living in London I suppose)
Cheers, John

Should add that I don't normally see more than 220, too. The last few miles up the motorway were done in disbelief, as was putting in less than 50 litres . Ended up looking at the pump accusingly...

I think the 97 was the first of the VF series, someone else will know the exact model.
It is a smaller turbo and so comes in eailer so it is harder I believe to get as good MPG as you cannot rev it much without the turbo spooling up and pushing that fuel through.
I get really good consumption on the 200miles I do on a monday and on the way home of a Friday cruising home, but in-between going throgh town the consumption is crap.
Just last weekend I drove motorway at the weekend and then the 200miles on monday so could maintain cruising off boost for 432miles.

JGM,
I normally get 190 miles from a tank in my uk 94 wagon! But coming back through France last year I took it easy after a blow out at 120mph and got 34mpg. It was on the autoroute though only stopping for tolls and the odd layby.
It can be done
but it aint no fun!
