All,

Heard a very nasty story on Friday.

A taxi driver I know ordered a Volvo S80 (from somewhere in the Heathrow areas - I'm not sure if the dealer was a Volvo or a car-market please)

He got a phone call on Monday to ask him to call in on Tuesday to pay the balance by Express Cheque. They said the car would be ready Friday.

So he went in just after 9am on Tuesday. Lo and behold, they went into liquidation later that day!

I've never heard of this 'Express Cheque' thing so don't know what comeback he will have, other than join the queue after the VAT and Tax man

Remember, people, lets be careful out there!

C

Sorry to hear it

But surely you would not pay any balence until delivery??

To do so would surely be asking for problems.

I agree 100%. In my view, this should never have happened, but there you go :-(

Express Cheque is likely to be a special clearance where the payee on the cheque telephones the bank of the person writing the cheque to check funds are available. It does not guarantee that funds are available on the day the cheque is presented.

Your taxi driver friend should put an immediate stop on the cheque - he still has time to do this.
