Default What turbo for JDM Forester XT SH5 2008

So for the the life of me I can't figure this one out the car is a JDM Forester 2008 XT EJ20 engine it's the 3'rd gen the one after the Cross Sport, engine set up looks the same as an WRX 2008-2013 engine except it's a EJ20 not an EJ25 pic above....

From reading around I think It could be a TF035?

If it helps the car is the first gen SH 2007 - 2008.....these were only available in UK Europe USA from 2009 and came with the EJ2 engines outise of Japan the EJ20 was only availble in Japan for this generation Forester...

I need a new turbo and I'm trying to figure out what to get is a EJ25 turbo same as a EJ20 turbo will it be a direct fit?

TF035HL
The Forester SH (S12) model turbos have the Legacy style bolted compressor outlet flange to suit the plastic inlet manifold (similar to WRX Hatch)

The UK 2.5L XT model is fitted with a 14411AA710/14411AA7109L turbo, a TD04L model (although some images show it as a TD04HL)

This would be a straight swap and a bit of an upgrade but would need mapping to suit.

WOW Awesome thanks a lot for the quick reply, do you guys know if I can fit a TD04L instead of the TF035HL? I will get it re-mapped after the swap....

I'm planning to buy a used TD04 send it to turbo dynamics for a check before fitting.... and while I'm at it is there anything else I should do like the oil feedline etc?

Current turbo has not failed yet but it whistles under high booost so I'm assuming it's on the way out...

I got this TD04

So I'm assuming to make it fit I need to get something like the below ? I can only find it in China though......

See update to post#4

Make sure you get the correct TD04L compressor housing as per post#3

If you are sending it to Turbo dynamics why not let them source a new housing so you know it will fit.

The "whistle" could just be a blown gasket on the turbo outlet side/intercooler/ throttle body hose.

Don what about the Fsti turbo ? if the td04 fits would the vf41 fit, as it’s a very good turbo with virtually no lag ?

Again not a straight fit and would need a different compressor housing.
Similar rebuild using a VF43 for a WRX hatch upgrade (original was a TD04L *AA710)

Do you guys know if a Legacy turbo would be a direct fit? From reading around the following turbos should be a direct fit VF40 VF46 VF52 and TD04 can't find any with the legacy style flange but there's a couple of VF38 around not sure if these will fit or if it would be better or worse than the TF035?

VF40, VF46, VF52, all of these would fit, but the VF38, VF44and VF45 are twin scroll so no go

Would this be a decent turbo? Or would I be better off just rebuilding a TD04L ? Will probs come about the same price as I'd have to buy a TD04L then a new housing for the compressor with the legacy style flange and then send it in for a rebuild.....
