Default Classic Impreza Tyres advice needed

So on my Classic I'm running 205/40/17 tyres, one tyre has uneven wear, so i'm going to get 4 wheel tracking done, i'm looking to replace all the tyres aswell, I've been told i should be running 205/45/17 tyres, just wondered what your thoughts are?

My other classic has newage wheels with 215/45/17 tyres. Runs and handles well.

I'll throw another option in, I run 215/40/17s, mainly as that's what was on it when I bought it. Think these are the nearest matching circumference to the factory fitted 16s.

To be honest I thought that too, as I'm sure that also effects the circumference aswell. Do you know what the standard tyres and wheels are. I bet it says on the links lol cheers for those.

Right so this page, says that standard tyre size is 195/55/15, so using the size calculator It says 205/40/17 is the best, which is what i have on current tyres and its showing about 3 mph less than what I'm doing.

Think I'd refer 215 as you'd be getting better grip, would only knock the speedo out abit, by 1 mph, which might make it more actuate.

Yes a lot of people did that with no issues.

The other advantage of the 215 40 17 is they are more widely available.

Before making a final choice on 205 or 215 width you might want to check on if you can also get the manufacturer of tyre you like / at the price you are prepared to pay.
https://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Search/Size/215-40-17

I was always forced to use 215 45 17 for my MY05 WRX in Germany because the TUV does not allow 225 45 17
unless you had it specifically written into your V5C equivalent on the German doc called "Kfz Schein"
In size 215 45 17 the choice of tyre is more limited and more expensive than 225 45 17 which was frustrating as the 225 was the better width for trackwork
and meant I had to use a second "legal" set to drive to-from the ring.

205/40/17 are very common in the UK. Man I've watched a few videos on Germany and car modifying, well I wouldn't even class tyre sizes as modifying. And it's such a pain.

All your mods have to be approved etc.

215/40/17 is quite common to be fair. I've not really struggled to find any sizes new. My Newage Impreza has 214/45/17.

Just been looking and 215/45/17 are about £40 cheaper than 215/40/17, plus I'm guessing my speedo will be closer to right as i guess its lost abit.

I run 215/40/17s on my MY00 Classic, summer and winter tyres.

However I always have to order them online as they are not a standard size in Germany so no one carries them in stock.

I can't use anything else as it is not allowed as it is not written in my paperwork or approved for my car.

Just been running around in my other classic which has 215/45/17 and is easier ride over small pot holes.

How you find that tyre size? I know its strict over there. You can fit what you want over here.

I had OZ Supertourismo 17s which I got in the UK as you couldn't get them here and I requested 215/40 tyres be fitted to them as that is what I was recommended. So I had this done then took them to the TÜV and they took a wheel off the car and noted down the model number embossed on the inside of the wheel and the tyre sizes allowed on this wheel from the manufacturers paperwork and the tyres I had on them were listed so they wrote all this down in my paperwork and I paid them money and all of a sudden after paying money they were approved for use on MY CAR. Note: MY CAR, my mate who had the identical car was not approved to have these wheels as it was not in his papers. I was then given a certificate by the TÜV which I had to take to the Landratsamt and paid more money to have it written into the papers for my car.

I got rid of the wheeks years ago and now have 17" STi 7 gold wheels on the car but the same size tyres as that is what is stated in my papers.
