Default Oil cooler sandwich plate

Hi, thow the **** do I fit the HEL oil cooler. It came with a mocal sandwich plate but how do I fit. How do remove old? Do I block the water supply lines or add my sandwich plate ontop of the existing.

If I remove all that is there and put the new thermostat onto block Im unsure if the pipes will fit.

Confused and no instructions for what is an expensive generic kit it seems.

It was ordered off scoobyworld

Assuming you have the same thermostatic sandwich plate as me (mocal sp1x, I think), you either need to keep the original oil cooler, or fit a mocal oil filter spacer.

I have this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/402185882505

Without either the original oil cooler (aka the modine), or the above plate, it's not possible to fit hoses onto the plate because the fittings foul the block.

If I were doing things again, I'd leave the standard modine and fit the thermostatic plate on top of that. That way you get warm oil quicker when cold, but also benefit from the cooling effect of the aftermarket oil cooler when required.

Also, if you are keeping the modine, but are messing about down there anyway, it might be worth changing the o-ring between the modine and block, as the can start leaking. Lots of YouTube videos on how to do that if you want to change it.

We put a spec c one on ours instead of a sandwich plate but you can just bypass the two coolant lines going into the Oem oil cooler and take the Oem unit out like

I got some black tubular heat shield from from Torques GT (i think he sells on ebay only, but quality products) - it's a silicone outer layer with fibreglass insides.

I have a ported OEM manifold with heat shields removed, but:

- wrapped headers
- where oil cooler lines go near the headers i have doubled up on the heat wrap around the headers
- the torques-gt silicone heatshield for the actual oil lines.

With the location of the oil filter, and especially with OEM manifold, the lines end up very close to the exhaust, which worried me a lot, but with the above I've done at least one track day without melting anything

It is possible, however, that your lines may not end up as close as mine, particularly if you're keeping the original modine, and also if you have other headers. I used to have RCM headers, and they are much further away from the block, but I like the spool and noise of the ported ones
