Default Personal import... What's the costs?

Thinking of getting a JDM.

Using an agent who is already in Japan...... Im NOT wanting to use 3rd party agent in the UK who charges their free and then still would use an agent in Japan.

If you self imported. What where your break down on costs... All the way to your car being on your drive and UK road legal?

So...
Car bought at Auction cost XYZ
Agent fee
Shipping insurance fee

Once in UK.. how much were the customs clearance agents fee and any associated fees charged in the UK.
And obviously Duty, and Vat added to everything.

What is the car cost at Auction... Then when here total of what it cost you?

TIA

It might not work out that much cheaper than buying a 2nd hand JDM that's already been here 12month.

But it means I can pick what i want.. within reason... and be the 1st owner in the UK.

a Forester Cross Sports 2007.

what got me is this car.... not saying its brilliant grade/condition on the auction sheet.... sold for 120k yen... about £970!!!
https://prestigemotorsport.com.au/au...ycWPkwT2nUrC0Z

Then it's on ebay ...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Fo...d2ca%7Ciid%3A1

there is no way that will have cost more than £3k to get to the uk with all duty vat paid.

I'm no was saying an importer can't make a profit.. and doing a full service/cam belt.. a details and tidy up... but that's some mark up on a car that doesn't read that good on the auction sheet.... AU1 marks on from wing. W2 paint issue on the OS panels, U2 dents on the NS panels

I paid 1.1 million yen shipped for mine
then 100 insurance
£2300 for vat and import duties
paid £99 for someone else to sort that bit out for me

Then cost of a fog light fitting and mot £50
£25 registration and £135 for 6 months tax

brought the car in April registered and on the road in August

that was 3 years ago and the exchange rate was better and cars were not making as much
but that was a type r
for newer cars I think you can still get them cheaper
on top of that it’s an experience to choose your car then watch it on the sea freight tracker as it travels around the world. Picking up from the docks etc

you forget auction fees . Shipping in Japan . Radiation check . Agent fees . Shipping to U.K.
insurance . Paying nova fees
your right they are making a profit but probably only 1k-1500 if they sell it at the price advertised

I'm looking to use Mark at Brave, have a look here... at the costs
http://www.braveautointernational.jp/agents_fee.html

and radiation check is free as they all get checked when they go on a boat anyway

I've a Customs Clearance agent in the UK all lined up to sort out the paperwork when it lands in the UK, their fee is £75. then you'll pay them all the duty/VAT etc obviously you need all the correct paper work for the car that's left Japan,

and that £3k I mention on top of buy the car at £960 should cover all Duty/VAT and fees.

as you look at adding 33% to the car value + shipping cost to get to the UK.

so call it £2k for the car and shipping and add 33% = £2660

and how much is shipping a car RORO.. £1k?
