Default UK car, European import 'type' UK - what's it all mean

Looking to buy and confused with terms. Many cars for sale state 'type UK', on further enquiry it appears these can be a genuine UK car or a European import. What are the differences, if any, on a MY03/53 Sti? Would it be reasonable to pay less for the Europoean import as I guess they cost less to start with but are they more difficult to sell? What about dealer warranty, upgrades like PPP and tracker. I read the market appears to be dead at the moment but do not really see any bargains. Been looking for a newer car over the last year and I remember a 52 reg Sti at a dealership with 16k for £15.75K 12 months ago, their does not appear to be much difference in price for a 53 reg. now.

European Imports are about 33% cheaper than a UK Equivalent.

UK cars are the ones that hold their money.

Jap Imports are pretty much worthless after 3 years old.

A proper UK car with one owner and not messed about with will always be the best buy, but it will also be the most expensive ..................... there are no bargains!!

There have been some real bargains advertised on here STI's of that sort of age - do a search, I am sure you will find something good for the right price especially at this time of year!

"Type UK" refers to the model. An "STi Type UK" has a few things that are slightly different to the STi designed for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM). Japanese imports will tend to be the JDM model rather than the Type UK. There are often some advantages with the Japanese model (twin scroll turbo, more power), although they are sometimes harder to insure and service.

A Euro (or "parallel") import car - if supplied with a full EU certificate of conformity - is an identical car to what you would have bought from a UK dealer. The only two things to watch out for is that Subaru UK fit the alarms and locking wheel nuts - these aren't factory fit. Therefore, if you're looking at a Euro import car, check that they have these. The Euro import car (as long as it has the certificate of conformity) should be the same for insurance as the UK car, should cost the same to service - although some dealers get awkward about it, and post 2002 should be warrantied for three years.

Whilst the Euro import car will have cost less new, they are fundamentally an identical car. Therefore, second hand they tend to be a little cheaper until after the warranty has run out - but after that they won't be very much cheaper as they are after all an identical car!

Apart from the EU import doesnt have the rust proofing underneath, that UK one has so it will become rust bucket

Er not quite. Most EU cars will have some underseal applied.

It is said that UK cars have extra underseal applied at the point of import in the UK when the alarms and locking nuts are fitted.

I think that the Jap Imports can have no underseal at all.

They all have some form of protection. We get extra underseal/wax oil applied when the cars arrive. It only costs £60-80

Some of the old RA's and Evo RS had no underseal and a myth began that all imports miss out. Unfortunately the internet is littered with incorrect statements which get taken as fact, there is also a lot of mis-information designed to confuse the UK buyer

sorry mate i disagree if you put our car next to a type UK after the 3 year warranty is up, and both having full subaru service history, and ours is just say for example a grand cheaper.... i think you will find ours will sell before
type uk .......... i've asked a few type uk owners and they agree...

infact some have said ours is worth more???

Also the STi Type EU doesn't have the tracker on as the Type UK does. Or well mine doesn't anyway. It's just the security issues mainly, wheel nuts, alarm, tracker.

I had a quick ding-dong with the insurance company explaining the EU/parallel import thing, they wanted to put it as a japanese import at first. But after that was sorted, it was the same to insure.

Cool blah blah

Blah blah, all i hear on this site is my car is a uk, yours is an import, mine is worth more than yours, my dick is bigger that yours.

Fecking hell just enjoy the car who gives a **** where it came from and that pish about euro imports worth 33% less than a uk one.

I have bought and sold many cars and i have come to realise a car is only worth what someone is prepared to offer regardless if it is a UK, euro or import.

Enjoy your subaru, you never buy a car to make money anyway.

Gordon.

No I dont Pete; Im reading ScoobyNet eating my lunch.

When have you ever made a positive contribution to a thread? When did you last genuinely try to help someone? All you posts consist of is boasting; childish name calling; feeble slurs, gain-saying and making general pointless remarks intended to undermine people. If you could sort yourself out you wouldnt get on peoples **** so much.
