Coolant temp sensor
Ok am in prices of getting up and running I have a v8 sti scdb with a crossover pipe that hasn’t got a hole for an individual temp sensor as it’s a my94 car.
can I splice one to the 2 pin connector on either wire to power the gauge?

I have the original 2 pin connector to one sensor and a spade connector spare at the min as opposed to the newer style with a 3 pin gauge integrated.
wondering if I can merge the old gauge wire on to the standard two pin existing to power the gauge and all from the same sensor as the newer models have?

The newage sensor has two pins for the ecu and the third pin for the temp gauge. the temp gauge side of the sensor earths via the sensor body to the cross over pipe which is why you should not use thread tape - only the supplied copper washer.

Neither, buy yourself a newage temp sensor and wire accordingly - or get someone who knows what they are doing. That said, I'm assuming calibration for both parts of the newage sensor match that of the older classic versions.

Hi guys,
just thought I would update on a solution, so I had a 3 pin coolant temp sensor for the crossover pipe, basically I cut the excess of the plastic connector off and soldered the old gauge wire to pin 3, I then soldered the left wire of the original connector to the left pin, and the right to the right.
heatshrinked all connections so sealed and soldered on to wiring harness, hey presto it worked temp is fine, gauge works it’s perfect so now if I get a connector that fits and a new sensor it will be done properly but it does work.
to note left and right are both based on the clip at the top of the connector
