Coolant Temp Sensor

Default Coolant Temp Sensor

Hi all, im looking at changing the coolant temp sensor as ive been advised to because of engine start up troubles, thing is when i took the alternator off to get in there seems to be two possible sensors,Question is which one do i change, Cars a 98 Sti type r.

don't know much about cars and stuff m8 but..

one is the coolant sensor and the other the oil sensor.

the oil one is closest to you which would go vertically into the engine

the one furthest away from you should go in to the coolant elbow horizontally

pretty sure I am right but stand to be corrected ;-)

Yea m8 your right there but that aint the other sensor im talking about, this one is horizontaly into block too, which is confusing me on which one is the actual water temp sensor??

on our uk cars the temp sensor is the bigger of the two that go in to the water channel that sits just above the block under the manifold. it's the one with a 17mm base to it and a plastic brownish plug. the other smaller sensor next to it is a single wire with a spade connector on and that one does the gauge.
