Default classic subaru ignition barrel problems

so my new scooby has a woping 192000 miles on the clock apart of a load of things that need doing ( see other thread)

i can pull out the key out of the ignition with the car still running, is it possible to put a new one in or would it have to be second hand? also could i take the microchip from my current key and put in into the changed one?

has any one else on here experienced this type of problem before?

Newman Reidy should be able to offer a solution. Maple Leaf helped me with an old Forester.

My JDM Classic key has a microchip - but I can also remove the key from the ignition whilst it's running/start the car with a flat head screwdriver, so I don't think it's doing anything!

does any one know what the little red light in the key looking icon is on the clocks ?? i assume its the immobiliser that talks to the micro chip in the key fob

Ah yes the "classic" classic key falling out the barrell issue

I replaced the tumblers in my ignition barrel ( 95 WRX) as i wanted to keep the same key , that was a fun few hrs lol but yes its doable, its not the key at fault its the barrel, the tumblers have worn away and dont grip the key anymore, there is like a small piece of metal that grips the key
