Default Newbie interested in Scooby ownership

Hi All,

My name is Mike and I am a newbie. A bit of background, I have owned a few interesting cars over the years, such as: Peugeot 205 GTI, Toyota MR2 Turbo, Honda Prelude, Honda Accord Type R, Honda Integra Type R DC5, Toyota GT86 and a few more besides. Anyway, I am in a position where I can spend about £10k-£12k on a second ‘fun’ car to be used at weekends etc. I am just in the process of changing my daily car from a GT86 to a little Toyota Aygo to make it more viable, having a nice car for daily duties does not appeal to me anymore, where I work parking is awful and the commute is 50 miles a day so anything juicy is not really sensible, hence the GT86.

I have not owned a Subaru before but have always been interested by the second generation WRX STI blob eye. What is it like to live with? Yes it would be a second car and would probably do less than 4k miles a year but what is the potential for financially crippling bills? My other option is to go back to a DC5 as I loved that car and if something does go wrong on them, it is relatively cheap to fix. I am interested in finding out more about the STI, I haven’t even sat in one before let alone driven one so for all I know they are not for me, but I certainly want to find out more. Where is the best place to start? I live in Crawley West Sussex, if there is anyone local that would be willing to show me round theirs it would be much appreciated

Thanks

Mike

Hi and welcome….

Im no expect but I’m also in your boat. My current car is a 2002 STI and im looking to get something a little newer and bit more excusive from the STI range around the blobeye year.

10-12k will get you a lot of car for the money if you’re looking at a blob eye.. There are a wide ( to wide) list of models with varying degrees of equipment and one up-manship status.

Cars to consider:

Sti Widetrack with TwinScroll turbo
S203 – Very nice car, defo a weekend toy to keep the miles and stone chips off
Spec C – as above- but I hear it a little more race orientated

I’m sure other can help chip in with other cars / options

Thanks for that. Having done some more research I will either for for a JDM TwinScroll or a UK STI with PPP I think. However, like I said, I have not driven one yet.

Thanks for the offer but that is quite a bit more than I want to spend. I need to spend some time researching what sort of example I can get within my budget.

Consider a WR1, blob, limited edition, prob top of your budget for a half decent one but perfect for a weekend car, certainly will not lose anything on it.

Not biased i promise lol

It's widetrack so has the DCCD but they're single scroll turbo. VF35 I think.
