newbie interested in bugeye
Lo all!
Recently aquired the need to go turbo, whilst 4 seats, boot space, awd and that sound are also big sways!!
Hopefully selling my nissan 350z in a month or so. Love the car but to go turbo would mean more money than sense!!
A few forum members on 350uk have given me food for thought on the impreza.
My main question would be as i have a budget of roughly 4k (need the extra cash from the zed sale to tide me over for a while) i am considering, highly, a bugeye. Question is; wrx or sti?
I have been told sti is the way to go however given well looked after and tuned wrx examples which would be worth going for?
Thanks for any help.
Andy

Hang on a minute, I got a slapped wrist in other threads for 'tuning my' WRX
Bugeye wrx 2002.
Few little mods to take it to 340 ish, an was told "got a good chance of blowing it up" an to get an STI? Ie anything over 300bhp will turn the internals to chocolate?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, it'd be a relief really

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I am actually looking for a saloon, not a wagon sorry Leemac, but thanks anyway.
Scoobaru mad, your bugeye wrx is running 340bhp? At what stage have you upgraded to? New to turbo cars I'm afraid.
I should have given a bit more detail, my situation currently is that of low income for a short while. I can afford to run a 350z on it however.
Given the future I'm sure I will be interchanging parts and aftermarket.
I guess my question should have been "Financially, taking all these factors into account, is the engine/gearbox on the wrx good for more power at a later date and would it be silly to spend out on an STi then start changing half the parts in the future?"
Sorry to go into detail like this, never had to choose such a varying trim model of a car before!

Why don't you just keep the 350z until your financial situation improves? If you are planning to start modding an Impreza you would be better off waiting until you can afford the STi. If you want to mod you will find with the WRX there will be limiting factors as opposed to the STi.

I'd agree with Chopperman here.
But if you're looking at any Bugs, whichever version, you need to look out for rust, especially the front subframe (and pretty much anywhere else underneath).
Remember they're all at least ten years old now, and really don't like salt very much.

I've got a bug that's running 340 horses at the mo. It's had some mods mind u. It's got the 2.5 bottom end conversion , vf34 turbo running ecutek and the k n typhoon induction kit ( takes the cold air from the wing where it's mounted) It's had the big brake upgrade front and rear. It's just had a new recon gearbox with exceedy pink clutch put in. As for the gearbox question. I've came to the conclusion after speaking to many specialists about mine , that as long as yr not launch starting and abusing gear changes. The standard wrx box is good for 350bhp.

Thanks for all the helpful tips guys. I am going to focus on looking for an STi. Should be able to sell the Zed plus parts for something like 7-8k. So hopefully have 5-6k to play with, possibly a bit more.
