Default Knocking noise

Hi all filled up with super unleaded instead of the usual normal unleaded this morning and the engine is knocking loudly since?!i have a hawkeye wrx,is this because of the detonation being out of sync because the ecu is used to normal petrol?tia

using super unleaded instead of normal wont make it worse, it’s more the other way round , i heard all subaru turbos should be run on sul any way ? , i’m thinking not running on sul all the time maybe your issue , any chance of hearing the noise and where it’s coning from , mileage of car plus service history and has it been mapped ?

That’s what’s worrying me the type of fuel used , is it supposed to be SUL and not regular UL ?

My blob wrx has sticker inside fuel cap, use 98ron fuel only so running it on normal unleaded won't be doing it any favours.

I personally feel running it on standard unleaded has killed it and it’s given up the ghost , im sure they are supposed to be SUL even the WRX

Yes, as said above mine is only wrx and has to run sul.
Other thing that worries me, if op is not using the correct fuel, is he also topping the oil up with mineral oil instead of fully synthetic.

The oil he’s using is not a great idea but the fuel is likely to be the culprit , ive always used SUL in all my cars wrx or sti , even a mapped n/a holden says use SUL , runs better plus better fuel economy and my understanding was that was the correct fuel any way

I didn't say he was using mineral oil, just said I worry that he might be as well as using standard unleaded.
