Default Refurbed header tanks

Anyone else had issues with the seal between the base and top? had mine about a year and done hardly any mileage and its seeping from that area. Just wondering if its sorting or going back to the original, not happy as paid good money at the time

Get one from a hawkeye or newer as they are made from plastic and a sealed unit ,, mattybr5 sells them for around £25 from memory

Sometimes the seal has perished after being clamped for so long, you can get new ones from icp I'm pretty sure.

Just refurbished mine

I bought mine from a reputable seller, so a little disappointed that the seal already needs doing

Not recommended to split them from memory, I've read something somewhere at sometime and always stayed away from them

I've thought about them in the past as I saw a nice red and black one with shiney bolts , I'm sure it was something to do with when the torqued bolts are taken out the tank still won't split and requires a bit of pressure to open it which usually ends up with a slight warp hence not sealing...I could have dreamt it but that's why I didn't ever buy one

Had my header tank powder coated red and like you, noticed it wasn't sealing perfectly as there was always water marks on the top of the tank. Found that when hot the powder coat was slightly soft and causing the leak, there was paint stuck to the cap seal as well. I cured it by gently filing the paint off the top (made of brass by the looks of it, so won't rust) of the opening where it mates with the cap seal, bought a new cap and have had no problems since.
