Angry New car tax from April 2017

If I'm reading this correctly, buy your wrx/sti before April or you'll be paying £1700 a year tax!

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-new...ut-uk-road-tax

Oh yeah, if your rich like buy a car that's £40k+ it's £450 for the first 5 years then £140 flat rate (I think)

Interesting, but only 1700 (up from 870) for first year then 140 a year thereafter.

so a pre-reg wrx-sti with the first year tax paid would only be 140 quid a year to tax instead of current 460.

Wow it didn't take them long to start hitting the people with zero emissions cars.it was the same when everyone went to diesels they just pumped diesel fuel prices higher than petrol. Then they advise you to buy green cars but then yet again they sting you. It's cheaper to just drive about and get police fines it's a joke this country.

I think it's much fairer for everyone to pay same flat rate, £140 per year seems fair pity they don't apply this to older vehicles as well

But you'll benefit 10 years or so down the road when the car is affordable and so is the tax

Thats good news, deseials are bad for the envioment worse than petrol cars, yet they seem to get lower tax bracket, very odd setup, flat rate of £140 will stop all the that. So does that mean if you buy a new STI you will only pay £140 a year?

Why not?

The first year will be expensive, but £140 a year after that

Cost effective if you keep the car for at least 5 years (452 a year) or wait and buy at 1 year old

This raises a question, as far as I know the first years tax is not refundable so what happens under new rules??

Say you buy a dealer pre-reg one month old, what happens to first year tax??

Or is £140 for all cars from 2017? Can't see it being that. Sounds like it's just for new cars.

Its never been retro-active in the past, so I am pretty sure for new cars second year on. (After 1st year cost.)

Yep, even 2015/2016 models will be less desirable than a 2017 tax bracket one, similar to the blob and hawk/hatch, but tax difference is even bigger
