Set the change light to 3000 (or any other figure) and see if it comes on at the same time again it may have been set some how to come on at the same time. I run a GEMS ECU on my bugeye and the mapper set it so the engine light comes on at max power.

Has the car been mapped?? Is the light been set up by a mapper for when it detects engine knock?? Had the same thing set up on my old Evo 7 which was mapped by the legend JGM when the engine detected knock(crap petrol usually) the check engine light would flash when driving hard!!

No micky it comes on when the ECU picks up a fault and stores a code.

ok yes i will try setting another rpm. It was only recently imported so the history is all Japanese the guy at the garage said he thought it was "tuned" a little didn't mention a mapp so could do with going to get it checked and tested i guess. And the light that showed was like a engine/gearbox shape just left of the shift light

little update... changing the rpm on light makes no difference.. happened again at just past 6k only in 2nd gear tho. And i did fill up with tesco momentum today instead of shell V-power which i was previously using as scoobyboy did mention fuel. Going to see a mate tomorrow who is hot on the scoobys. Many thanks for the replies

Could just be the Bugeye cam sensor interference eml flash,
been known to happen when given some beans.

no, Bugeyes suffer from a weird eml flash from time to time if given the beans,
it is supposedly down to poor shielding for the cam sensor from interference iirc.

This ^^^^^

First port of call would be to change the nps if it's flashing when your changing gear.
I had it on my last sti and was picked up during a mapping session

Yes, mine too, it will stay on permanently eventually.
Also, it does not create a fault code.

I know what the CEL does.

I meant, as others have mentioned, if it's been mapped it may have been set as a shift light for some reason.
