Surely its worth more to sell than break?
As I'm only keeping the sti its time the wrx went.
But surely its worth more as a 3.5k car (53 blob 54k) than it is in bits?
I mean there are some nice bits like coilovers big brakes arb, but none of that will add up to the price of a car?
Why does everyone think its always worth more to break the car?

when you see some of the parts such as wheels and spoilers etc etc for sale on the forum because whoever is selling them paid X amount for them they just assume they are still worth that price....that's what I was trying to say...
at the end of the day parts or even a full car is only worth what you can get for them....

its simple economics. Average bugeye sti retails at around 4k, worth upwards of 6k in parts if you look around a most breakers prices.
It soon adds up, engine, turbo, wheels, suspension, brembos, 6 speed, spoiler, bodywork etc.
Considered breaking my last car for this reason but couldnt bring myself to do it and found someone willing to pay a reasonable price for it.

Lets not drift off topic with all that.
I understand breaking a sti yeah but with a wrx like the one I am thinking to break its surely not worth it?
Engines are cheap for a wrx, so is the box making it sell for overall more as a whole car i'm sure?

I was considering buying a newage sti before I got my type r. Saw at least 3 priced under 4500 over the last couple of months and even a widetrack blob for 5k but they all get bought by breakers like mattybr and scott@scoobyspares. A tatty spec d only made 5k on ebay from a garage, theres bargains around if you're patient and get lucky.
When you do a reg check on a newage sti you'll see that most are overpriced compared to the valuation you get. In the end I gave up because you have to be stupidly quick when you find one or its gone the next day.
As you say, theres no money in breaking a wrx unless its heavily modded hence why the for sale pages on here have very few wrx's and only ltd editions, sti's or heavily modded stuff.
Luckily the prices are going up, so this may stop perfectly good cars getting broke.

It's only worth more as parts when you have sold everything.
Yes some bits may go quickly like engine, gearbox, brakes. But that won't get you your money. To make it worth it you have to sell all the panels, interior, switches, relays, fuel pump, senders, suspension components, hubs, ecu etc etc.
The problem is you could make £500 quickly but then be stuck with half a car on your drive for a year while you make £20 here and there. Plus all the time spent arranging people to come to your house to see bits or all the time spent at the post officer/waiting for couriers the hassle of people messing you a round and asking too many questions about parts etc... It's a big headache.
If you do it as a business and can store loads of cars and parts fine but trying to make money from breaking one car that you want rid of is IMO not a wise idea. Unless of course your car is a **** heap only worth £1000 and you happen to have a great engine which is worth £1000. Then just sell the good bits and scrap the rest. That's the only way to make it work.
