Default tensioner fail.

Anybody have there Cambelt tensioner bolt snap and fail?
Cars a 99 UK turbo. Was driving along heard rattling stopped at home went back out heard rattling followed by a misfire then corrected itself then missed again pulled over turned the car off... Then went to start engine turned over turned over really quick (no compression) checked the belt and completely slack. Spotted the tensioner was floating about causing the belt to rub aswell. So anybody have the bolt fail and snap! Few bent valves now aswell as I can just about turn the engine over by hand

quite common, usually that fails before a belt does hence its best to change the lot when doing the belt.

yes I had the main idler control valve stick, what a shreaking noise that gave out, melted the belt so had one bank slightly damaged but was very lucky. I think after reading the above my 99 uk will be having the other parts fitted as well. not to mention the new fuel filler pipe that's now got a leak. hope u get yours sorted soon.

Not the first time I've seen the bolt supplied with replacement belt kit snapping off.

generally caused by the bolt being over-tightened in the mounting plate.............

its a shouldered bolt so designed to bottom out

Yep, bolt has been over tightened at sometime in its life and has just been hanging on judging by the shear line.

Yeah was hanging on as the belt was heavily worn aswell. Annoying thing is that it damaged the trigger wheel on the crank aswell
