Mondeo Tyres????
Not sure if this should be in here or Tyres???
Anyway, my Mk2 Mondy oil burner is needing a pair of new tyres. It currently has a pair of super budget tyres which have amost no grip what so ever. I want to put on sommat that has decent (not neccessarily brilliant) wet/dry grip, cost under £70 a corner and which will last for 20k (the car is a motorway queen).
Looked around on blackcircles etc and Falken FK452's seem to kump out at me. Any opinions on this tyre or indeed any other. Remember this is for a mile muncher

I'm sure my old Golf GT Sport had those Falken 452's on them.
Seamed a decent tyre, I had no complaints with them. Gave pretty good overall grip in the wet & dry.

This Link suggests they are however not brilliant
You get what you pay for though. At there price point, they are never going to match say a `P Zero`.
And on a Mondeo TDI, do you really need performance rubber?

Are they a performance tyre? I was thinking they were a midrange tyre.
The tyres that are currently on probably cost £40 a corner (just guessing) but will easily see over 20k miles on the front. That sort of milage with more grip would suit me fine which is why i'm aiming for mid range
Don't start me on P-Zero's - the worst tyre i ever cam across

I fitted 4 Barum Bravius 2 to the wife's Zafira. They're made by Continental http://www.barum-tyres.co.uk/bravuris2.asp They are far grippier than the Pirelli P6000s it was on, particularly in the wet . National tyres often have decent offers. I think I paid for 2 and got 2 free last year. Sound perfect for what you want

I had the Falken 452's on my Mondeo St TDCi, pretty good grip in wet and dry, but they lasted about 10k !!, big heavy front drive car with lots of torque = short tyre life, currently running Nexans, not so good in the wet (not bad though), quieter, and are lasting longer.
The Mondeos seem to like a squarer profile tyre like the Conti's or the Nexan which is very similar, I will avoid round shouldered like 452's Eagle F1s etc, cos' the edges just get worn away v' quick.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've ended up going for the Barums as suggested by s70rjw. Looked around Black Circles, My Tyres a National tyres own website which were all around £140 for the pair fitted but managed to get them from tyre shopper at £122 fitted , ironically at National Tyres

Got them fitted yesterday. So far have done around 150 miles mostly in the wet. Really happy with them. Good grip in the wet it appears so hopefully dry roads will provide a similar feeling.
