it surprises me that people do this type of thing, surley the cost of the conversion is very similar to chopping in the car for a real rs4

to make a 22b from manufacturer parts would cost you 2 times as much as the real thing, so why have a rep when real one is cheaper? i bet the comparison is the same for a rs4

Well if you can't afford an RS4 then don't pretend you have one! He could spent the money on a 3.0TDI or similar instead of making a fake RS4.

The other way round is about 1353453455 times better - an RS4 made to look like a 2.0TDI. All show no go = gay beyond words.

That is my OPINION and most certainly not FACT.

As gay as putting pink STi badges on a UK Turdbo.

My mate and I had an argument one day as he didn't believe me that there was no such thing as a RS4 TDI as his neighbour just bought a *mint* yellow one!

Quite a few 320d BMs around with 335i/d twin pipe conversions too. Or even gayer, QUAD pipe conversions in an attempt to look like an M3!

Replicas not my thing, but got to admit that looks like it's done pretty well.

But why the v8 badge on the wings?

I can just imagine pulling up beside that - I'm the sort of saddo that drops a window to hear a sweet engined car rev - imagine the disappointment of hearing a rattly four pot diesel engine!! And getting outdragged by modest hatchbacks.

It actually looks very well done but badging a TDi as an RS4 is a big

If it was compeltely debadged i would think that car looks really good

this actually really pisses me off, sitting behind a 3/5series or an Audi a4. You catch a glimmer of something shiny and its a fake second exhaust pipe right beside the soot covered real one.

Don't know why it annoys me but they should at least paint the inside of them black so they look a bit more convincing.

You usually find that the people who object the most are those that have the real thing. You can understand why but at the same time I doubt that they can understand the motivation behind those that are doing it.

I'm sure I read on an Audi forum of some guy doing an RS4 rep - even down to the interior and using genuine parts.

From what I remember, the end result did end up costing similar money to an RS4. Thinking about it, I think it was some european country where buying the car was one thing yet you were forced to pay the same again in road tax or some such cobblers because of the engine size.

I think you are being a bit judgemental and harsh Mattee (and I know that's not like you)

personally I wouldn't do it -- but come on, we are all petrol heads, can't you admire the end result or if not that, the sheer enthusiasm

some people have more time than money - celebrate the madness, otherwise we may as well all drive Vauxhall Vectra's

Agree with what others have said making an RS4 replica with a diesel engine is just wrong, nothing against Diesel's, I own one, if it was debadged it may not be as bad though

My issue is more with what could have been done with the money that cost to convert - must have cost a lot to do (yes it is well executed) - wouldn't a better engine be more useful? I've always been very anti "all show and no/not much go" in cars and everything in life really. Putting RS4 and V8 badges on it is even worse than sticking "M" badges of a 318i...

Terminator - I think you must have missed my ranting about M Sport badges on non "proper" M cars? Absolutely no WAY! I got an SE (not easy with a 335d) for the subtle/sleeper look - only "M" bits I have are M Sport suspension which comes without stupid try hard "M Sport" badges.

The fact mine looks a lot like the 318d down the road (unless you look hard) is a major bonus in my eyes

Having said that, at least mine is pretty nippy - that Audi has 140bhp and is "dressed" like a 400+bhp car. I have nearly (in fact officially slightly more than) 300 and enough torque to bore the pants off the entire SN population for life And several E36 and the odd E46 M3 have been outdragged at Santa Pod by a stock 335d (admittedly launched VERY well by a good driver). Would still NEVER stick an M badge on it though.

To be honest I can almost see the point of these cars, I never would but I can understand why people do - running costs

My RS4 costs me a small (read large) fortune in fuel, is due a new set of tyres, brakes and clutch. Even being in the trade that's a big expense.

So, if youre into the 'look at me' on a budget, the replicas whether they be Audi 1.9tdi RS4s or Toyota MR2 Ferraris make some kind of weird sense, although personally the 'drive' trumps 'looks' every time.

There's plenty of non written off 2.0 TDIs for the same money. Why bother?
