Do I swap my Golf MKV R32 for a...
2008 Audi TT 3.2 Coupe? Yes mechnically its pretty much the same thing with added hairdresser, but the Audi has potential to be newer, better specced, just as good performance-wise and it wouldn't cost me much to swap.
The Magnetic Ride option seems appealing. But not sure if it would make any worthwhile difference. The roads by me are crap, whilst the R32 copes far bettwer than many cars, I'm wondering how much better teh active damping would be.
Recaro bucket seats is a must option, I already have them in the Golf, and I wouldn't be without them.

I went from the 2.8 v6 4Motion to an A4 3.0TDi. Best decsion I made tbh.
The reason for posting is that I had the recaro buckets in the Golf and the seats in the A4 are way better. (two tone leather) I could never get the golf seats just right, but the Audi ones... wow. I drove 10.5 hours from the far North of Scotland in one go (fuel and food stop just south of Glasgow not included) and was perfectly comfortable in the Audi. I did a similar (Crianlarich) trip in the golf and was near crippled.

Didn't think the v6 4-Mo had buckets? Are they the same type?
I love mine, good bum/lower back warmer to counteract the awful heater on a cold morning. Although they could do with a bit more head/neck support and they are a bit of an **** to get in/out, epescially if I've sprained my lower back (again). However my gran has no problem getting in/out of the them
These are what I have (pics taken whilst I was rebuilding/respraying them - previous owner had kids which scratched the gel-coat backing to buggery from repeatedly kicking them ):
(crappy SN uploader )

Similar - not so OTT at the head brace bit. The SEAT seat bit was the same though.
(mind you: the big reason I like my Audi seat is the memory button for it and the mirrors, key coded as well )

Have you seen how much they are fetching?...I could get two 3.2s for what they are currently going for
Nope, its the current shape: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/220/4...6ba833ea51.jpg
With the later generation haldex and adaptive damping, it should be a better handling car than the R32. Maybe a bit better screwed together too, seriously, the MKV R32 is more rattly than my old MKV escort, I've fixed most of them, but its still annoying.

As per one of my threads I like the Mk2 TT especially in TTS guise. I'd say if it wont cost you much to swap and you can live with the lack of practicality then go for it.

When are you making the decision?
Although I think the TT looks more stylish and perhaps more upmarket I dont even look twice at them. When an R32 goes past they are less common and for those that know their cars appreciate that its a bit special and not a normal Golf. Personally I prefer top spec lower marques than standard more upmarket marques.

New TT looks smart. Can't imagine too much difference with the ride though.
Still smile at Hairdresser comments...too many people worry about how they would 'look 'to the outside world in their cars...! Just buy, drive, enjoy a non rattly car

I take EVO reviews with a huge pinch of salt due to their egotistical journos, but this seems to follow my thinking: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evol...6/audi_tt.html
Currently the R32 is a bit too hard for the local pot holed roads, and a bit too soft for fast twisty country lanes, so maybe the magnetic ride would address this. That added with my R32 being five years old this year and guessing VWs build quality, I am probably going to have to throw some more money at it on whatever next that goes wrong. So I'm wondering if its better to swap something similar, but a little newer and better specced.
Maybe its wishful thinking that maybe the MK2 TT has addressed the quality issues that plague the MKV Golf? I know they are basically the same engine, chassis, suspension and gearbox (newer version of haldex though? ), but being a newer car maybe they've ironed out the bugs?
Just buy, drive, enjoy a non rattly car

I'd go for the Mk2 TT. I was about to buy one before settling on a Mk5 Golf GTI and the only reason why I did that was the golf cost me £8k less and at the time we needed the spare cash for my wife's business.
I really adore my golf but love the look of the TT.

The magnetic ride dampers sound great, but on normal roads.
The sort of rubbish roads we have at the moment and the sort of teeth chattering potholes we have it isn't going to make much difference IMHO
Even our bouncy X Trail is giving lots of feedback!!
Still buy the TT though
