Default **** my boxster is making a clattering noise from the engine!!!

hi my 53 plate boxster s today has started making a clattering noise from the engine it seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine.i had a look on boxster forums and engine repairs are circa 4k for the ims repair which is the cheapest engine **** ups i dont think its this as the oil wouldve leaked out past that seal i still have oil in the engine!!
i dont have a warranty what would my options be.
1.set it alight
2.take out a warranty then a while later make a claim how long do you normally have to wait before a claim is valid?
3.take it to local porsche specialist and hand him my bank acc details.
4.drop the engine out phone around breakers for another 2nd hand engine fit it then sell it?
5.slit my wrists.
seriously any suggestions?

why dont i give you my address il leave the keys in it you come up and take it problem solved i claim insurance lol

i know an independant specialist ive been to before seems ok but this time it sounds very expensive and they can say anything they like as to what the problem is which is the scary bit
it sounds like a main part of the engine has loosened off and is now clattering about inside lol

Even if it is serious engine damage a friend on here got a Boxster engine off ebay (I know!) and for the whole lot fitted it was £2,500 and he said the engine was actually better than the one he had in the car before. So all is not completely lost.

Boxster engines do go though - another friend had a 3.2S go in Guildford High Street!! It was £12.5k to fix - just out of warranty.

Could be worse - the engine in my Pork costs £40k according to Top Gear - actually it's only £28k, plus VAT and fitting!

Extended warranty looks a Godsend to me - however at least these engines are not as fragile as Boxsters

Spooky - which porker do you have

I suspect something a little better than a 996 C2/C4 (which I really want)

Have you checked to see if its a couple of loose Hairclips or maybe the plug from your Tongs bouncing about on the Air filter or something .
You never know !!!!!!

Sorry ,couldnt resist .

Hope its nothing too serious .

The nosie, does it exist through the rev range, just getting louder, or only happen at certain rev's ? Does the nosie go if you press the clutch in ?

Like the guys suggested, go get the car independantly looked at and work out what's wrong, then decide your options. If you go for the extra warranty, does the garage assess the car first ?? Also, for the type of fault, will the warranty cover it ?? Would you have to pay a certain % of the costs ?

right i gave it one more try took a cover off the front underneath of the engine and i could see what i thought was oil dripping down.it was coolant!!!!! it looks as if the coolant pump is shot hence the squeaking!!! so hopefully thats all it is i pressed my ear onto a scredriver against the pump and all the noise is coming from there iam sure thats what it is!!!!!
