Ahh the good old french water pump...

The plasic impeller will no doubt be in 3 million bits....

Very simple to change so long as you have basic skills, fairly easy to get too.

Replace the gasket and belt at the same time.

Check the hoses, if they are looking a little on the worn / old then its a good time to replace. On a 2003 this might well be worth doing.

The only other thing to mention is they are sometimes a bit tricky to bleed once done, make sure you have no air in the system as it could cause you major problems.

HTH!

Being honest, from reading your replies, you dont come across too mechanically minded, so I perhaps would get a garage to do it.

Im pleased that it wasnt serious after all.

Good luck.

i can work on cars no problem its because its mid engined it aint easy to pinpoint where the noise is coming from in most cars you lift the bonnet look and feel and move your head around the engine bay to hear. i had to get the ****** up on 4 axle stands crawl up to the middle of the car and take off the pain in the **** covers underneath to see and even at that was bloody difficult as theres hardly any space. waterpumps aint that hard but when iam dealing with something mid engined bad access to work on engine and expensive if it ***** up then i wont be taking any chances with bleeding the sytem etc ive informed the indy of the problem so theres going to be no bull**** just a waterpump and belt replacement.then the ******* gettin traded in this time japanese maybe 350z maybe s2000 maybe subaru but japanese lol
any thoughts in what to go for next circa 13k and under?want fun feels fast and reliable i know thats hard to find lol.

Derek, as per PM, you could buy my Evo if that is of interest. I've had it detailed, and there is a quieter exhaust, plus the brakes don't squeal now they're bedded in.

I fancy something German and unreliable

If you want reliability and a roadster then an S2000 is going to give you that in spades. Most reliable car I ever owned. Absolutely nothing went wrong on it. I've heard the 350z interiors don't fair well over time but at least that won't leave you stranded either

John, I'm surprised you don't want a Spooky Special!

Thought you'd be more a GT3/2 type of person rather than a Turbo.

Anyway, good choice. I've just got myself an absolute mint 2003 X50 TT.

I want some refinement, ride quality and ability in the snow/wet/mud, plus tunability.

There not hugely quick as i remember a couple years ago having a little play with one whilst in the scooby i had at the time-just a humble my98 turbo with just exhaust filter mods. There was nothing in it between us from 50-145mph.
I also remember james martin ( he tests cars for the mail every week) being underwhelmed by the s2000.
Im sure there very reliable but so's the speaking clock!!

Depends on your definition of quick........5.5 to 60 and 100 in 14 something isn't exactly slow though........

They are as quick as a Boxster 3.2S and will not break the bank along the way. Sure they ain't supercar fast, but I didn't think that was what the thread was about, we were talking about replacing a Boxster.

It always makes me chuckle when people claim to be underwhlemed by Honda's VTEC offerings as I firmly believe that it takes a good month living with an S2000 to work out that to get the best out of it you need to thrash it and it is OK as it won't blow up when you do.

Driven Miss Daisy they are nothing special, but drop it down a couple of cogs and head for the 9000rpm rev limit and it ain't too shabby.

Couple that to being well built, great handling, reliable, cheap to service, good looking and relativley fuel economic and it's a winner as far as I am concerned.

hey people just an update i traded my porsche in for a clio 182.
ok its not japanese but wasnt really sure what to go for i tried a couple of mk3 mr2's from the one garage.both black.i got offered 12k for mines.
the brake pedal would bounce under my foot under gentle/normal braking which was weird as they were low mileage an 06 and an 04.1 had an engine management light on and the other wouldnt open the fuel filler cap unless i hels the lever open next to the seat and the dealer went outside to prise it open with his key.so it aint easy to find a half decent car.
i tried a 350z 06 plate never impressed me that much the porsche felt quicker.
then i tried a mazda 3 mps good initial punch but the power fell away quickly as the revs increased unsure if they all do that.i got offered a straight swap with the mazda which in effect was £11800.so thats how i ended up with the clio.i got that for £5800 an 04 plate against my porsche a 53 plate got 13k for it.there you go a tale of porsche ownership lol

Glad you get sorted out Derek, sounds a good buy. At least if the Clio breaks it shouldn't hurt.

Your thread and my little comment that you could buy my Evo resulted in a PM and I sold it yesterday - thanks!
