fook my boxster is making a clattering noise from the engine!!!

hi my 53 plate boxster s today has started making a clattering noise from the engine it seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine.i had a look on boxster forums and engine repairs are circa 4k:freak3: for the ims repair which is the cheapest engine fook ups i dont think its this as the oil wouldve leaked out past that seal i still have oil in the engine!!
i dont have a warranty what would my options be.
1.set it alight
2.take out a warranty then a while later make a claim how long do you normally have to wait before a claim is valid?
3.take it to local porsche specialist and hand him my bank acc details.
4.drop the engine out phone around breakers for another 2nd hand engine fit it then sell it?
5.slit my wrists.
seriously any suggestions?

Get an independant Porsche mechanic to assess it first.

rallycol 18 May 2009 10:40 PM

Sell it to me :)Where about are you ?As I know a man who can.

Timwinner 18 May 2009 10:48 PM

Get an assessment and see if its on the recall list first.

why dont i give you my address il leave the keys in it you come up and take it problem solved i claim insurance lol

i know an independant specialist ive been to before seems ok but this time it sounds very expensive and they can say anything they like as to what the problem is which is the scary bit
it sounds like a main part of the engine has loosened off and is now clattering about inside lol

I was interested in one of these

delcbr 18 May 2009 11:00 PM

You never know it could be an ancillary loose? ,if you need any help ,one mate is a Porsche engine builder for a race team the other works at a main dealer, but you might not be local to me ,sunny Liverpool.

dpb 18 May 2009 11:04 PM

Piston slap ?

LeeMac 18 May 2009 11:09 PM

might be no help whatsover but a few years ago on my fiat derv, one day it was making a right racket, took it to nearest garage to sort it, it turned out to be the alternator pulley which was a relief, that said the cheeky gets charged me 464 eruos

rallycol 18 May 2009 11:14 PM

Fingers crossed then.

delcbr 18 May 2009 11:17 PM

fingers crossed bank book firmly shut lol

Even if it is serious engine damage a friend on here got a Boxster engine off ebay (I know!) and for the whole lot fitted it was £2,500 and he said the engine was actually better than the one he had in the car before. So all is not completely lost.

Boxster engines do go though - another friend had a 3.2S go in Guildford High Street!! It was £12.5k to fix - just out of warranty.

LeeMac 18 May 2009 11:32 PM

thats me back to looking at S2000s then

rallycol 18 May 2009 11:38 PM

Maybe thats why the missus has an S2000

Spooky Mulder 19 May 2009 12:21 AM

Could be worse - the engine in my Pork costs £40k according to Top Gear - actually it's only £28k, plus VAT and fitting!

Extended warranty looks a Godsend to me - however at least these engines are not as fragile as Boxsters :)

LeeMac 19 May 2009 12:57 AM

Spooky - which porker do you have

I suspect something a little better than a 996 C2/C4 (which I really want)

Spooky Mulder 19 May 2009 08:08 AM

This one :D

njkmrs 19 May 2009 08:36 AM

Have you checked to see if its a couple of loose Hairclips or maybe the plug from your Tongs bouncing about on the Air filter or something .
You never know !!!!!!

Sorry ,couldnt resist .

Hope its nothing too serious .:thumb:

The nosie, does it exist through the rev range, just getting louder, or only happen at certain rev's ? Does the nosie go if you press the clutch in ?

Like the guys suggested, go get the car independantly looked at and work out what's wrong, then decide your options. If you go for the extra warranty, does the garage assess the car first ?? Also, for the type of fault, will the warranty cover it ?? Would you have to pay a certain % of the costs ?

Yeah sounds pretty bad, but best of luck mate! I bet you find out its something trivial!

delcbr 19 May 2009 07:04 PM

right i gave it one more try took a cover off the front underneath of the engine and i could see what i thought was oil dripping down.it was coolant!!!!! it looks as if the coolant pump is shot hence the squeaking!!! so hopefully thats all it is i pressed my ear onto a scredriver against the pump and all the noise is coming from there iam sure thats what it is!!!!!

sti-04!! 19 May 2009 07:07 PM

Result then :thumb:

delcbr 19 May 2009 07:56 PM
